Penalty shots with run ups, referee holds their arms behind their backs. Or... how about... the other boxers trainer is allowed to try to hit you with a baseball bat if you get too close to their corner. They have their own designated area on the apron where they're allowed to stand and swing a standardised bat.

No. That would make a mockery of the mandatory system. Purse bids ensure fighters are paid what they're worth. Otherwise they would just make derisory offers and promoters would take the **** and hold the titles hostage.

    Firstly, this thread is ATG.

I would have an additional weigh in 1 day after the fight to eliminate weight cutting once and for all. I would say weigh them before the ring walk, but this way the event is more protected and it drags out the drama.

No they shouldn't. If they did, you won't find any boxers active and all would pursuit different careers. It's a business more than a sport, always remember that.

This doesn't make any sense, particularly with fighters from other countries. The away fighter's promotional team is going to be less able to promote the fight in a foreign country. For one they would have to negotiate a new TV deal and will find it difficult to make money. That would mean there is zero incentive for the challenger's team to win the purse bid. The champion's promoter would then be able to lowball the fighters. All fighters would get paid less.

    In short, everybody loses.

I don’t always agree with it going to the bid but at the end of the day it’s all about the Green Backs

Disagree. It's a world title so the champ should be willing to defend it anywhere in the world. He's already getting the bulk of the money, which makes it easier for his team to win the purse bid.

You've been claiming for months that Joshua v Wilder should be held in the US.....

    Why the change of tune?

If they just focused more on upholding the rules that exist currently it would be a huge improvement. You all know the ones.

this is just bum squad cope.

how is a promoter going to give top dollar for a fight if he can't hold it in his power base?

if there are no purse bids then fighters will have to settle for low pay.
