Interesting to note that Salisbury's trainer Bernie Hall had also been Charkey Ramon's trainer. Bernie seemed pretty keen to get involved. Hall 40-18-4 was a former top welterweight in the 1940's & 50's. He died in 2007.
wow, thanks for sharing that. The flying kick through the air had me in tears, i rekon that ref was about to do a number on that guy he is lucky he got pulled away from it lol
Nearly 30 years on and there hasn't been a boxing match held at the Opera House since. The promoter that night was former rugby star Tommy Raudonikis, and the card read: Steve Dennis d Tony Britton - PTS. Jeff Malcolm d Thomas Amerigo - PTS. Ken Salisbury d Alex Temelkov - DQ 9. Paul Ferrreri d John Feeney - TKO 13. Salibury v Temelkov, the farce in the film clip, was for the Australian light middleweight title. Charkey would have felt right at home, having been the Commonwealth champ in the same division ten years earlier.
tommy never played a game of rugby in his life. he was a rugby LEAGUE star... 2 very different sports and a common mistake, normally made by vics...
I don't think a year goes by when i haven't seen this video posted on the aussie forum. Its something i'll never get sick of replaying, the guy who does the flying kick is hairlairious! Someone posted this video in the main forum a couple of months ago and the yanks were in tears.
We in Vic couldn't give a flying **** about the difference in terminology Stewy. ....and that's from a Vic who's been to many Storm & Origin games, watched the Melbourne Rebels, and seen Aust play, and beat the Brittish Lions.
