rios is actually one of my favorite fighters but i think he will lose this fight. the only bad thing about this fight is the whole weight issue . its not really an issue its just that i dont like gamboa is going up a full class and rios struggles to make weight. we can jst hope there isnt any weight controversy. n rios must come in on weight.

if boxing wants to start making a come back fights like this need to be made. this is a really good fight and when they do fight there is no doubt that while this fight last its going to be a great fight no doubt in my mind.

I have never been so convinced of the out come of a fight in my entire life. It is going to be a war for as long as it lasts but Rios will come out on top.

    Gamboa's keys to victory

Power must carry up- Rios doesnt respect guys that dont hurt him, he needs to get Rios respect or he will not keep Rios back

Speed must carry up- needs to retain the speed at 135 or Rios will get inside

Must be more mindful of his defense, Gamboa is usually pretty rock solid only problem is he at almost 1 point in every fight lets his guard down and gets caught, no big mistakes

also a lot of his victory depends not only on Gamboa at 135 but also Rios and making 135 and re hydrating

nah...gamboa is gonna try to outbox rios which should'nt be no problem if he can deal with rios pressure , size and power.....

if they were the same size, gamboa outboxes the sh1t out of rios , easy!

So you give gamboa virtually no chance?

I've been thinking about this fight a lot lately, and I think you have a point. Gamboa's catch 22 is that I don't think he has any chance of hurting Rios. Rios' defense is actually pretty good most of the time. He gets hit a lot because he throws 100 punches a round and doesn't move his head. But if gamboa wants capitalize on this (i.e. to do more then pot shot a high gaurd) then he'll need to be in range/inside and willing to trade with Rios. He can't win that fight. He's too small. Therefore, his only really chance to win this fight is to use an ambush style and rack up the points. Which means that even if he limits him to 60-70 punches Rios will still be landing the harder punches. Thus, in order to make his "pot shots" count more then Rios' punches Gamboa will have to land about 20 punches a round.....which if you're following the catch 22 here means that he'll have to take it to the inside enough to capitalize on the openings that Rios provides when he is punching.

The biggest intangible is Rios' weight. He was badly drained in his last fight and this could be because he has matured to a point where his body can't make the 135 limit. But it could also be because he didn't think much of Murray and didn't train hard enough for his last fight. I think the answer is somewhere inbetween these two theories but that its closer to the latter then the former (i.e. he'll be in shape enough to preform his best against Gamboa).

I agree with what you say but here's the thing. His power won't carry. A least not against Rios. Rios has taken plenty flush bombs from big punchers at 135 like Peterson, the guy he won the title off, and John Murray (while severelly weight drained). Gamboa does not hit as hard as any of these fighters and won't hit as hard at 135 lbs. So if you were a straddle better you could pretty much forget about Rios stopped.

In boxing there is always a chance but in this bout Gamboa is going to find out that he should have had a couple bouts at 135 before stepping into the ring with a beast like Rios.

I said before that i disagree with Gamboa imposing his power with Rios,it wont work.If Gamboa stops moving to trade with Rios he is losing the fight, Rios is very stubborn and wont be intimidated by Gamboa.
Gamboa should move the way he knows,he may not be able to KO Rios but can slow him down specially if he comes dehydrated. The way he fought Solis who is even taller than Rios.Only trading if Rios seems hurt and still keeping the distance.
Gamboa doesnt have a bad chin like some people here says,he just stays out of balance when goes wild, most of the time he has been down is while leading the offensive, against Salido for example he was just putting a clinic on Salido the moment he got clocked.Well, Rios hits 2 times harder than Salido.
But Gamboa didnt waste anytime with any other at 135 than the best, and that shows lot of confidence.Im picking Gamboa by decision( depende of the judges-UD or SD)

Gamboa dominates. Rios well get his ears boxed off and possibly stopped due to accumulation.
