I like kessle rand was for him against ward....but outside of his record his resume is not great.....his biggest wins are andrade and mundine(who is now a MW)....this speaks volumes to the level that kessler is, a good B+ fighter for his era...

you dont think ward would get away with that on calzaghe do you? calzaghe loves wards style of fighter and would chew him to pieces.

    :deal

Truth is, a Calzaghe fan has to look themselves deep in the mirror and question themselves as a human being if they even CONSIDER saying a bad word about Floyd not fighting the best (which MANY do).

Calzaghe and Floyd should never be mentioned in the same sentence, and this coming from a Floyd fan who KNOWS Floyd could have had a MUCH better resume.

Calzaghe was a very good fighter, but nonetheless, does not belong with the Mayweathers, Pac's, Hops, Jones Jr's, Dela Hoya's, Mosely's Trinidad's etc... of this era.

I have always said this guy was a hype, check all my threads.Calzaghe wasnt great either, just a carefully matched fighter.Where was Joe when Roy was fighting and demolishing people,he was fighting Evans Ashira.

All great fighters have had to move up and down in weight for bigger fights. When Tonney was at his peak where was Joe?

I dunno I like Kessler but had no time for Calzaghe.

Kessler isnt as overrated as is now being said, he does a lot of things really well but does have a few failings, Ward took advantage of those and beat him.

True the head was in there bit if the ref lets it go then there is no point in moaning about it !

You are clearly an ignoramus, and I shall demonstrate thus over this thread reply.

Where was Hopkins when Calzaghe lined up to fight him in 2002, only for Hopkins to pull out and demand double the money?

James Toney was a tubby Cruiserweight about the same time Calzaghe became a Super-Middleweight Champion in 1997.

Oh, and straight after the Ashira fight, Calzaghe destroyed IBF Champ Jeff Lacy, a man who about 90% of American boxing fans thought would win by easy KO

At that time Roy Jones was on a 3 loss streak.

Well done on failing epically. "Y'all musta forgot"

Either he was a novice fighting six rounders in his first 7 or 8 pro fights, or he was a WBO belt holder two weight divisions lower, depending on what you consider as Toney's peak.

In neither scenario was a meeting between them in anyway plausible.

    disagree...

funny how every smw that comes along instantly gets compared to jc though, you cant take the kessler win away from him! at 35 he unified the division defeating a young undefeated tiger who had systematically beaten 3 guys all ranked in the the top 10 smw's...

just because ward beat him handier than calzaghe did does'nt mean ward would destroy calzaghe, quit the calzaghe bashing it was kessler v ward not ward v calzaghe idiots...

p.s did calzaghe not win a convincing UD over a much fresher and active kessler anyway? i must be missing something...

Wrong. The only reason I held Kessler in high regards was his athleticism he displayed years ago, when he decimated capable fighters with his speed.

Now, leading up to the fight, we saw him having problems with noone less than Perdomo until that one started to fade and slow down. We saw him not looking anything remotely convincing when sparring with Karo Murat. We knew he was sidelined a lot from injuries and his old promoters bull****. And he has reached the age when many fighters slow down naturally. Calzaghe became noticeably slower when 35, compared to his 32 self. Roy Jones slowed down. Hoya slowed down. Just having Hopkins beat the laws of nature getting better at 40 (wonder how ...) doesn't mean that every fighter today defies the laws of aging. Kessler seemed to just have hit that wall. If you couldn't see that Kessler was much slower than he was 3 years ago, you need to question your honesty. One of his problems was that Ward is an up and coming fresh fighter who is also very quick, i.e. the kryptonite to an aging, slowing down fighter.

Bottom line, if Kessler cannot get himself back in shape quickly, he loses every fight in the tournament.

    You are wrong.

Kessler was held in high enough regard before the Calzaghe fight to be considered a favorite by many to beat JC. He had plundered the division, knocked out Beyer, never came close to losing before Calzaghe. He is a limited fighter, but it takes a a truly excellent fighter to exploit his limitations, in this way Kessler is similar to Pavlik.

Calzaghe's career is about amazing consistency, beating Eubank, Reid, Mitchell, Lacy, Kessler and a version of Hopkins still good enough to school Pavlik afterwards. Never having a real off - night in over a decade. He doesn't have the one career - defining fight, but that's not the only way to build a legacy. Frazier has the win over Ali to immortal, but Holmes's career isn't a lesser one.

This is complete and utter bull****.

It would be (but isn't) equally legitimate to say that people who talk Kessler down are Calzaghe haters who want to discredit his resume.

You have an agenda of your own when posting **** like this.

I'm a Kessler fan and I rate Kessler highly based on his abilities as a boxer.
