Always thought this was an odd move, he (at the time) had a real show against AJ. It makes me wonder what Haymon says to these guys
Fury's plan the first time out was just fine, I don't think he needs to do anything different besides stay on his feet (easier said than done against Wilder). Even by the official scoring, he could have afforded to be dropped once in that fight, just not twice.
Fury hasnt got the balls for a 3 round shootout...I thought he would blow Seferi/Wallin out early but he didn't, it's not his style I'm not even sure he could tbh.
Fury - will apply the ‘Klitschko Fight’ blue print against Wilder as he is fitter than last time and will move more. The Klitschko fight will of been practically FIVE years ago though and Fury’s style is not one that ages well he also now fears Wilders power more having felt it and in my opinion he isn’t as hungry. Wilder - will not be as passive as he was against the bigger punching Ortiz and he won’t let Fury get away with such a low punch output that he’s applied in his two world title fights. I actually think Wilder, who knows he can badly hurt Fury will jump on him early. Yes, if Wilder tries to be too patient and passive then Fury nicks each round but if he goes for it.... brutal KO inside 3 rounds.
Agreed. As sharp as Haymon is, some of his advice like you mentioned, and Wilder turning down more money than his career combined for one fight, makes you wonder how senseless he and his fighters can be.
Wilder will flatten him this time. Nothing to fear power-wise, Tyson is on the slide, Wilder is still providing the goods, and he knows he can put Tyson down.
With the Wilder one, there were complications to the offer beyond it being X for one fight. Like having to sign with DAZN or fight someone else first etc. So I can kind of understand that to a degree. But Ortiz? I suppose he's had a decent run instead and had two cracks the world title. Maybe he thought the Wilder fight was more winnable? He damn nearly stopped him in the first fight after all. Maybe the gash fights he got with Hearn put him off and they wanted to retain him after too or something but I really don't know. Seemed a no brainer really.
I hear that, but money speaks volumes. And when you're getting offered more for one fight than your whole career combined, you have to do what you have to do. Ortiz had to be thinking he could beat Wilder on paper. I don't believe the Wilder/Fury/AJ fights can't get bigger than how big they were last year or so. Wilder is old, Fury is old and shot, AJ has lost. All of them have a few things going against them. It's not like a true collision course that Mayweather & Pacman were on. Cleaning out the division until they met each other.
Fury is only a year older than AJ dude lol. I'm not sure he's shot, kinda hard to say at this stage. That time off really can't have helped though. Next year is the year these fights have to happen, I think. And I actually think they will now. Fury-Wilder rematching is great. Ruiz-AJ itself is now a super interesting fight. If the winners don't try to unify, then people need to just not buy tickets or PPV's for their next fights. Can't let it drag on any longer.
I think with Ortiz he knew that he would fail a drug test and that played into his decision to turn the Joshua fight down.
But Fury has more miles on his clock. He has been close to 400lbs, had drug problems, and slowed down rapidly on his comeback trail.
Fury will beat him again. Wilder did not enjoy that fight. Hence the reason he said he had to put more weight on....was talking about putting 30 lbs on after the fury fight...he knew it was hard going against a man of furys size. He was tired in that fight. If he didnt get that second knockdown....he,d have been put down as being exposed that night. They picked ortiz cause he couldnt lead. He had to chase wilder about. Hes no good at it. Fury was picked because everyone thought he was completely finished. Fury was the first guy they picked that style wasnt made for wilder. Fury made him look hopeless as well. Fury can punch hard when he wants to. Its like mayweather...when needed they can punch hard. Or enough to stop being walked down. Furys always blew hot and cold depending on the opposition. He,ll be up for wilder tho. Beat him easier than he did the first time. Wilder wont walk him down....basically because the guys almost petrified of getting hit. Hes picking guys that have to follow him about....anyone that hasnt had to are painfully slow. Ortiz and fury his only decent opponents. Ortiz too slow at closing the gap. Stick povetkin in with wilder. He,ll close the gap a lot quicker than ortiz did. Stick him in with joshua....he,ll barely throw the right hand. Povetkin can close the gap quickly. Joshua wont need to close the gap. Wilders having it his own way because hes picking guys useless for 40 fights then pickjng guys that are made for him.
