I wonder if some of the Cubans don't wait a little too long to turn professional. As for Solis, if he had actually come into the fight in prime fighting condition, then I think the fight could well have got differently. There is no way that he should have weighed close to Vital given the disparity in height. Solis should have weighed maybe 220-225. Just adding extra pounds doesn't necessarily make you stronger or faster once you go over what your body's frame can handle.

BB, the haters claim to b over hyped but we know that is not the case one way or another, we both agree that Molina was a good fighter that could give a lot of problems to Lara if he was not prepare, ppl here were saying that Lara was fighting another bum and others that Lara would KO Molina in less that 6 rounds, IMO this is the best thing that happened to him, he got a scare and didn't lose his 0, not that I'm concern with the zero but nowadays if you lose one fight you r a bum hyped job and those same ppl are placing Martinez, Pacquio etc.. on a pedestal, fighters that had lost before and bad, by KO, in Pacquios case twice, so I'll had love for Lara to KO Molina but that didn't happen and got the next best thing, a draw (fair and square) what he does with this experience is up to him, if he start throwing punches from the get go next time around, we know he learned his lesson, and I hope his next fight is against Molina.

All things considered Solis was doing pretty well for himself scoring on Vitali before he got hurt. Losing to either Klitschko Vility or Wald is no disgrace. I would not pick a current heavyweight to beat either of them and only a handful of all time greats.
Ismayl Syllakh is a better boxer than Yordanis Despaigne .This wasn't an upset.
Guillermo Rigondeaux despite being 30 years old and having an exlent amateur background. Winning gold in 2000 & 2004. Plus a landury list of accomplishments. He is still a devloping profesoinal boxer with only 8 bouts. Despite having a lot of talent he was taking a big step up against Ricardo Cordoba.
Yan Barthelemy I'm not all that impressed either. He's going to win more than he loses and might win a championship but he's not a world beater.

Wait, are you for real? They don't have a say on the matter, they defect when the opportunity present itself and some like Solis balloon to 300lbs, but I as a Cuban understand, there is nothing in Cuba, they take the milk away when you are 8 or 9 years old, maybe younger, they give you like one pound of meat for the whole month, there is nothing resembling a neighborhood grocery much less a supermarket, so when they c the food, the freedom some lose they drive, others like Gamboa, Casamayor etc.. keep the good work.

They are totally overrated and overexposed. ESPN is constantly showcasing Cuban fighters. They also have an American based civil community that sponsors their defections and funnels them into the U.S. and Germany so they can party it up and cheat on their wives that they leave behind in Cuba.

They get far more opportunities to achieve success as professionals than Russian and Ukraineian boxers who quite frankly, work harder and are a more solid investment for professional promoters.

The dirty truth of the matter is that with ever increasing minority populations, Cubans are seen as more marketable than Eastern European fighters.

Perhaps I phrased things poorly, but the fact remains, Solis did not turn up in the best shape for his fight. If he had showed up in the sort of shape he was in during his amateur career, he would have done much better. Now, of course, there may be reasons for this (e.g., as you've said they have come from conditions in which they did not have such free access to food), but that doesn't change the fact that if you want to beat the best in the world, you have to be in the best shape you can be.

It may seem as though I'm being hard on Solis, but it's because he does have so much potential. It is a damn shame to seem him not reaching that potential because he isn't as well conditioned as he could be.
