I had an old Ali book with excerpts from newspapers which stated he injured his jaw in the second.

Pretty sure this was the shot, Ali looked visibly bothered by the shot and switched to moving the next round.

Toughness is a matter of perspective my friends. Take the legendary Eric Crumble.

Did Eric consider the possibility that boxing wasn't for him at the fifth straight KO loss? No. The 10th straight KO loss? Hell nah. The 20th straight KO loss? nikka please...

It took the mighty Eric Crumble until his 31st straight KO loss (not counting an NC which was probably a nutshot KO loss) before his 100 pound balls of adamantium toughness could give no more. and even then, I wager he wanted to continue but had kids and was forced to become a family man.

Who else could muster a career spanning 23 years of brain bouncing KO losses and still come back for more? That's perseverance if i ever seen it.

I feel vitali quitting in a title fight because if a shoulder injury rules him out of any talk of being tough

I have a world of respect for Holyfield and what he did. And yes, he belongs somewhere at the top of this list. I'll also agree that he fought and beat better HWs than Toney did.
BUT Holyfield got stopped twice in his career (one time by Toney). And Holyfield was a naturally bigger and physically stronger man than Toney. Young Holy started out at LHW and moved up to CW pretty fast. He's never been a big HW, yes, but I guess everybody here will agree that at one point in his career, Holy was a natural HW. Toney never was. Toney was just fat.
So you can't compare these two really.
As for you stating that Lewis would have destroyed Toney inside 5, that's just speculation. Maybe yes, maybe no. We'll never know. So it's irrellevant in this thread.. Just keep to the facts.

Ali claims in the second but many of the parties there and a lot of history suggests it was later. Norton said something like he knew when it happened, second-to-last round if I recall, and that Ali was talking up until then. Seems like 50/50 which people believe.

Arthur Abraham, maybe. Not only for his bravery vs. Miranda I, but generally a tough unit, this guy.
