The Pac-Cotto Undercard Was A Disgrace to the Main Event and to Boxing in General

Ok, first let me just say that I'm not a guy who usually will ***** about -- or make a thread on -- a poor undercard. They happen. And the main event tonight, including the production of the videos before the bout and the ring entrances, was top-quality stuff. Great work there.

That said, the undercard sucked so badly it was embarrassing. I did not get to see the Gomez fight but the two fights before the main event were a joke, and whoever was doing the music and the production should never be hired again.

The best way to kill a great card or main event is to have awful lead-ins. A good example of this was the StrikeForce MMA event from a week ago. Thankfully, the Fedor-Rogers main event recovered from the dull-ass fight (Shields-Miller) that preceded it, a fight which cost CBS viewers who tuned out from boredom and who may not have come back for the main event.

Santos-Foreman should have been better, so you can't fault the promoter. Yes, Foreman is a crowd-killer (though not tonight except when he literally tried to run away from Santos at the end of one round), but who knew Santos was going to show up imitating Antonio Tarver from the Dawson fights? Santos looked shot, was pushing punches and was utterly dominated by Foreman. And Santos was the champ. The fight was god-awful, and it kept being interrupted with head-butts and whatever else the ref (Nady?) wanted to call. Brutal.

Then we got the Chavez, Jr. bout. I am a huge fan of Sr. but Jr. looks like he should be competing in a Tough Man contest somewhere. Very poor skills (at least tonight) and he couldn't even take out the feather-punching opponent (Rowland, I think his name was) who was eating shots all night. The crowd hated the fight, with good reason.

The announcers wanted nothing to do with the undercard, they just wanted to pretend it never happened. It was probably as bad as any I can recall. There was one Don King heavyweight fight a few years back that had a similarly pathetic undercard, but I can't remember who was on it and I don't think it was this bad.

What made all of the crap fighting even worse was the DJ. The guy/gal was playing absolute garbage music between rounds and fights. Van Halen -- OLD Van Halen -- and "Hit The Road Jack," remixes of Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" and other songs. Bad remixes. Really, really bad ones. "Whoop, There It Is!" got a play. So did "Push It" from Salt-N-Peppa. And he mixed this stuff in with other hair metal crap from the '80s and '90s

If I had paid money to be in the crowd, I would have thought I stumbled into an over-40's single's dance based on the music.

The fans were mostly silent for the fights, and when they did raise their voices, they booed.

Bob Arum should be ashamed of this event. Or at least the undercard part of it. It was a complete farce, and really tarnished a great night.

It was painful watching the Chavez Jr. fight, I was hoping the ref had step in and stop the fight and just go to the score cards at round 5.

I ****in LOL'ed at the end of the 11th round where Santos stomps on the floor, faking a power punch and Foreman instantaneously turned his back and ran around the ring

Yes, the undercard was terrible. I would rather watch my parents having sex than watch that **** again.

I agree. And that's a great way to sum up just how sh*tty it was. Even watching your parents have sex would be better (gag).

    LOL! Awesome! :good:good

The announcers (I was listening to the Top Rank feed at the time), after like the 7th round, just wanted the fight to die. And these are the guys that Arum is paying to call the fight. The crowd was booing their butts off. It was just like Chinese water torture. Most brutal sh*t I can recall.

The undercard was not good, but this was an Arum production right? He always did that. He will never have two big fights on the same card.

It happens a lot with Bob Arum. With Don King promoted cards you have better fights all together.
