The Pacquiao-Cotto fight should not be for the title if it is not at 147lbs

    You're right.

Sometimes, though, stupidity must be dealt with and fast, otherwise it can become dangerous.

I don't accept it. Its a bogus belt with bogus stipulations from both the fighter and the sanctioning body. Forget all the spin from the newspapers that the *******s get their info from, its a sham no matter who spins it.

The thing is, Cotto will have to be extra careful and train carefully to make 144. He can't be like Jose Castillo or Joan Guzman.

But hell, i'm already used to Pacquiao fighting weight drained opponents. Its nothing new either.

Check out Morales, and ODLH for details...

Again . . . if you people are so technical about the fight being at 147 . . . then Cotto should not be allowed to fight for a welter belt weighing 160 lbs. 147.0001 lbs is already a super welter weight. :deal

I agree with you although 145 is well within the WW limit which is 141-147 and if both parties agreed then a title fight could be made. The winner of the fight however should agree to defend the belt at the WW maximum limit of 147.

Pac will be outweighed by Cotto by 10-15 lbs by fight time. He just wants to reduce it by a couple of pounds to increase his own fighting chance and he is already getting too much criticism here.

then don't challenge the guy. there will be no weight limit come fight night unless pac puts another stipulation which is very possible.

Pac moved up from 126 to 130 to fight Morales and from 135 to 147 to fight Oscar but now some people are blaming Pac when his opponents(Erik and Oscar) came to the fight apparently weight drained. :huh

no title fight at 145, if they let cotto come in at 147 and pac can do what he wants fine then its a title fight.
It's disgusting that they are bitching about it and that it should be a title fight.
What if the catchweight was 141 should cotto still put it on the line because he agreed to the fight :huh that is the argument of some, because he agrees to the fight it should be for the title.

I agree with this, history shouldn't be made at a catch weight.

LOL... Cotto's nutritionist said that Miguel is a very cranky dude when he's having to worry about cutting. Everyone is, but Cotto maybe a little more than the rest of us. He's not happy about this poundage.

Did Pac really challenge Cotto? I believe the fight was offered to both fighters by Arum, their common promoter even before the Cotto-Clotey fight. If indeed it was Pac who made the challenge then Cotto should be the one dictating the terms.

I doubt that. 2003 Pac was just a superbantam, there's no way he would fight at 147. When he was still fighting at 130, Pac just laughed at the idea of fighting bigger guys Hatton or Mayweather like it was insane. IMHO, Pac himself was not confident that he could hang with guys above 130 that's why he chose a probing fight with David Diaz who was the least regarded lightweight champ.

The irony of this is that while Pac has only one fight at 140, fight fans already want him to fight the guys at 147 and that he will get little credit if he fights and beats the top guys at 140.

Stop complaining already, Cotto knows his own body better than anybody else, and if he says he can do it, he can do it. This thing about not putting the belt on the line is all about MONEY!, its his bargaining advantage, never did i hear him complain about being weight drained at 145lbs. He knows he still have the advantage, with the power and weight. Its Cotto getting a big payday with everything to his advantage. Stop kidding yourself with the draining.
