A lot of posts on here recently about the state of the sport and the debacle of superfights not happening and rightly so chaps.

It strikes me that at the moment, whilst there are some fights to look forward to, people really are growing tired of the sport. Some have even said words like "watching less and less" and "will probably be not watching the sport in a few years."

Which leads me to this: Do you watch more fights from the past than the present? Do you talk more about the sport's past than you do the present and future?
Do you think you will ever walk away from the sport?

No. I just love the sport to much. It would have to take something stupid to make me walk away. I take the bad times because when the good times come i appreciate them even more. I'm watching plenty more past fights but that's because i'm just enjoying the sport more and more. I'm getting back the enthusiasm and love i once had for the sport which did wane a bit in my teenage years because of my own boxing issues at time.

Not a chance. Even though this is percieved as a bad time for the sport, I still get excited about a lot of match-ups and enjoy watching almost all the boxing I can.

Wold never stop following boxing. Might get sickened by it and disheartened with it sometimes but that's the politics for you.

No other sport gives me the same nervous excitement as a great boxing match.

I think now a days it is not something I am very open about (liking boxing). In the late 80s and early/mid 90s it dominated my personal life, with all my friends being interested in it.

Now a days if I meet these friends we just talk about the old days, British boxing now a days is pretty much dead...

I think it's like that for most followers of most sports.

Rugby (either league or union) is my #1 sport from being a kid, and I always say that the earlier players were better, in some cases it's true but in other cases on reflection it's probably bull****.

I guess in boxing it's a bit different, the 80's were a really strong time, this era isn't that bad in terms of the very top fighters, the problem is that many of the top fights either don't happen, or when they do one or both of them is past it.

We keep talking about ''waiting until it's bigger'' when in fact we should be demanding the fights now. It's what ruins the sport IMO.... this is coming from someone that's only really been into boxing for about four or five years.

I totally agree and I am a football fan too, I never been as buzzing as I have for a sports match as I was for Hatton v Mayweather, Mayweather v DeLa Hoya and Hatton v Pacquiao.

The 24/7 series, the SkySports Countdown shows, the weigh-ins just adds to all the excitement.

Just shows what excitment Boxing can be bring when my mates who arent interested in Boxing at all but when big fights come about, they cant wait for fight night at my house. :D

No chance. I don't need superfights to enjoy the sport. I don't even need great fighters or great personalities. I can get up for Zab Judah against Santa Cruz still, I watch every FFN, and many here are the same.

There are still enough good matches to keep me entertained. It would be a bonus if more good fights got made.

Totally agree. People still talk about xx going British route, yy going Commonwealth/European then will be bigger fight - it's rubbish.

Rivalries is what will get these guys big names.

I know boxing, especially domestically, is in a poor state but to put another angle on it fans today have more access to fights via streams, YouTube and torrents than we ever had in the 80s and 90s.

Back then you got to watch a few fights on tape delay, even less fights live and the only option for most fights was to pay a tenner for a VHS cassette of mixed quality from a dealer (that may or may not arrive).

Things could be better but, from a purely selfish point of view, the glass is defineatly "half full" rather than "half empty".

A couple of days ago Kosaros made a post on this forum telling everyone about a relatively obscure fight for the Commonwealth Cruiser title from Australia that ended up as a complete war and everyone who was interested had the chance to download and watch it......need I say more?
