But it is worse today, we had to wait in the 80s and 90s for fights, and many did not happen both internationally and domestically, but it did not matter, because we had mainstream superstars both domestically and internationally.

As good as Messrs Pacquiao and Mayweather Jr are, if they ever fought do you really think ITV would put the as live fight out on prime time and midweek, like they did with Leonard/Hagler?

We know the answer... ITV would not even bother bidding for fight, because even if the fight happened, not enough people in this country would care enough to make it mainstream. It would have a bit of build up in the broadsheets and probably a page on the night of the fight from the red tops, but that would be it. But no doubt there would still be your four pages of why Ferguson thinks England sucks at football.

And without mainstream fighters, every single fight that matters to us hardcore could be made and yet boxing would still be on it's arse.

Leonard-Hagler didn't go out live in the UK TBooze. The fight was on the Monday night Vegas time and ITV showed it 8pm Tuesday UK time.
