I am far more excited about seeing Joe fight Pavlik than RJJ at this stage of his career. I get the impression that this might just be a negotiation tool to get RJJ to lower his demands though, we'll see. As for the fight, Calzaghe's on the slide and would have to come down in weight I presume. That's dangerous. That said, Pavlik has been dropped 4 times in his young career, more than Calzaghe has been in his 36 year old life. The Calzaghe that fought Kessler would outbox Pavlik to a comfortable decision - the Calzaghe that fought Hopkins (or worse) - could have disasterous consequences.
Enzo doesn't want his boy to go out like this. Slappy is a fraud, we all know that. Joe and Enzo have a choice. Fight the old, washed up Jones and win a dull, ugly decision. Or fight Pavlik and get the living **** beat out of you and end up slumped unconscious in the corner. :good
I can only think of two times - Zuniga and Taylor. In the Bronco McKart fight he was off balance and was hit on the shoulder and his glove touched the canvas. But it was meaningless. He wasn't hurt. The shot from Zuniga was in the first round, a left hook after some earlier left hooks. Clean knockdown but again Kelly wasn't hurt at all.
this is a old fighter on the slide against an up and coming proved talent. when JC wins i think it will silence alot of his critics. if an old slowing JC with no power left in his punches can beat pavlik what could a prime JC do
This is correct.:yep Edit- There appears to have been a 4th, that I'm in the process of learning about.
Both the Joe Calzaghe that fought Kessler and Hopkins would box his way to a decision against Kelly Pavlik, in my opinion. Joe didn't become a bad fighter over night, or suddenly grow old, he was just fighting Bernard Hopkins. Throw any world rated fighter in with Hopkins and they are most likely to have their worst night performance wise. It's just styles. I make this prediction because Joe Calzaghe isn't the kind of fighter to be knocked out. He was off balance against Hopkins, but before that he had very rarely been on his back letalone actually being hurt. Mikkel Kessel can bang pretty hard, and he didn't really make any dents on Joe Calzaghe, or even come close to stopping his opponent. Pavlik hits harder, but he doesn't have fast hands nor is he a counter-puncher. You should really possess at least one of those skills if you want to beat a man like Joe Calzaghe. Joe Calzaghe will wait for Pavlik's signature one-two all night, and counter with a right hand and some flurries, with a lot of the shots missing. Even still, Joe Calzaghe will most likely land a lot more on Pavlik than Pavlik lands on Joe.
I'm surprised by the amount of support that Pavlik is receiving in this mythical matchup. He's a solid fighter, but not particularly imaginative. This is a fight that I would prefer not happen for hometown reasons.
Brother, Pavlik has nothing to lose here. If he were to lose it would be to the current LHW Champion, champion 10 years reigning, and at higher weight classes. Pavlik could drop back down and keep his belts, with not much lost but his 0. the pipe wrenched account at ESB though, will be officially terminated.:barf :barf :yep
:good Thanks jsimps, I have been posting the wrong ****. Appreciate the clarification. What are the details of that KD??
