GGG hasnt beaten or been in anyone nearly as good as Pavlik. At this stage Pavlik would win.

Taylor didnt have a **** chin,his problem was stamina in the later stages and almost had Pavlik oot early.Would fancy GGG to bang him out as Pavlik was very easy to hit but again im maybe over rating GGG at this stage.

It's a hypothetical match up. Nobody can guarantee who would win, it's just an opinion but GGG's ring I.Q, timing, power, technique etc would be unlikely to disappear just because he's fighting a lanky power puncher.

Have you never predicted that someone will be successful at the top level before they competed there?

And let's not act like Pavlik was some elite ATG Marvelous Sugar Ray Hopkins here. He only ever beat one top level guy himself and that guy had flaws and was also KO'd by Froch and Abraham.

but pavlik was the legit MW champion of the world - so was jermain taylor

i'm not saying he was iron-clad, and neither was taylor - but you have to give them props over the GGG machine until he proves otherwise

bute was the flavor of the month last year, and even though I think most people (including me) don't think golovkin is going to get flushed down the toilet like bute was, it's still bad form to give him props over genuine champions who earnt their stripes

 

From what I've seen I definitely think Golovkin is a better fighter but if I'm honest I think a healthy Pavlik would have handily destroyed Macklin, Stevens and Proksa. It's easy to forget he was a hell of a fighter not that long ago. He may have been Golovkin's toughest opponent so far even in the shape of his last fight with Rosinsky. But my gut says Golovkin wins.

 

It seems that some people on here have Kelly Pavlik confused with Tommy Hearns at WW. Pavlik was a limited 1-2 robot. Pavlik was nearly KO'd by Taylor, GGG makes it happen.
