The perfect style?

    So your a trainer and you can only show your man one fighter which he is too imitate. Who is that fighter? A true 'textbook' fighter who combines all the aspects of a great fightr in a way that relies on technique and skill rather than athleticism.

    For me it would be Jose Napoles. Head movement, great jab, great footwork, great punch technique, doesn't ignore the body and can both lead and counter. He would be the fighter I would show a budding prospect; truly a guy who boxes the way a boxer should.

    Who are your picks? :good

    Emulate Ray Robinson, and you would be studying GOD...He was about perfect an all around fighter nature could create...
    I should know, cause I saw prime Ray....

    not sure probably Arguello or Napoles, but it would really depend on their build, style strengths and weaknesses!

    Well wouldn't everyone want to fight like Ray Burt! But his combination punching, reflexes and pure athleticism are impossible to emulate. I wouldnt show a young fighter a video of Ray and say fight like that because that was his own style, it was unbelievably effective but hardly textbook. I liked the suggestion of Barney Ross in another post, a true technician.

    Interesting call on Napoles, though I'm not sure I would advise a boxing noob to wear his guard around his chest and rely on being able to slip everything that comes your way. Only Mantequilla himself could get away with that one.

    I honestly believe that Harold Johnson is th definitve choice. Lopez is fine for out-boxing, but Johnson has a decnt ingame a well as world class out-fighting skills.

    Yeah, but asking a figter to immitate Robinson is a little like asking the vicar to immitate God.

    Fair point. But i'm a massive fan of fighters using head movement, if it's taught correctly then it's so much more effective than your traditional noob defence. High hands, no head movement. The guys i've sparred against with those high hands usually get blasted because they don't realise that you still have to block and parry.

    What would be your choice then?

    And an authentic war hero [Guadalcanal, to boot ]
    Tidbit-after vhe licked the drug addiction, I once saw him at a function,at a bar, all by himself...I was a coward to walk over to him and say hello!!!
    I had no cujones, because I was in awe of him....b.b.
