He has to be the best P4P fighter since Rocky Marciano. The man is a phenomena. The way he handled Kessler, while Kessler fought a great fight. Is a sign that Calzaghe is one of the most skilled fighters in history. Kessler fought a brilliant, mostly mistake free fight and still got shut out.

I was a doubter of Calzaghe before he fought Lacy (by the way, this fight makes Lacy look a lot better) If Calzaghe can handle Kessler this way. It should be no surprise that he could handle the less talented but game Lacy.

I see no one at 168 that can beat Calzaghe. He should move up to light heavy. Even there I think he is all but unbeatable.

I too doubted Joe C but lets not go nuts here, there is still work to be done here before I pronounce this guy the greatest according to you, since Marciano. Lets not go overboard here there is still Dawson, Bhop Pavlik, Taylor out there and to engage any other opponent at this stage would be sheer bull**** at this point.

:huh 17 years without a loss and he just shut out a great undefeated fighter. At 35 soon to be 36, this is a great accomplishment. I don't see that he has anything left to prove. If he retired today he would still be in the top 10 greatest p4p of all time.

I almost choke on my own vomit when I read this. Then I laughed my ass off. Beating Bornard would mean nothing. Give me a break. Bornard has not beaten anyone of note in several years. Caszaghe out boxing Bornard would not be worth a twit.

Never said he was. Not even the same style of fighter. I am saying that as he is now. He has to be considered in the same top 10 p4p greatest fighter.

Agreed. At 35 going on 36 it was nothing short of miraculous to outpoint an excellent champion like Kessler who fought a great fight himself.

Calzaghe's boxing brain and ability to change his style and adapt to his opponent are truly special. One of the best fighters ever, without a doubt.

Let's take it easy, Flatty! Calzaghe was grossly underrated by many fans prior to the Lacy fight and even after, but let's not go overboard and start overrating him now. He is NOT the best fighter since Marciano. Jeez, you had a fellow named Ali in there, y'know - not to mention guys like Sugar Ray Leonard and Marvin Hagler!! :patsch

    bad comparisons there Zakky dude.

Calzaghe would shutout Hagler, Amsterdam and CHJ have made many threads on the nightmare that Hagler would have with Joe.

SRL in his own book says that Calzaghe is the best fighter he's seen, and says that he would have been beaten by Calzaghe when asked by Michael J Fox who would have won.

Since Marciano? There have been quite a few greater fighters than Calzaghe since Marciano.

Great fighter. I wish we could have seen him fight more good opposition. Most everyone agrees that Kessler is his greatest victory.. Kessler is a top notch puncher and did land on Calzaghe, has proven Calzaghe has a great beard. So, Calzaghe has average power, extremely good movement with unorthodox boxing ability which allows him to throw many punches, land many punches without much power, but enough to throw opponents off balance..

Tough combination to beat. I think he's a great fighter, but really have no idea where to place him, as his competition is severely limited. Guy hasn't lost a fight in something like 15 years, but then again, for a guy who has fought for 15 years he should have a resume with some great names on it.. Very unfortunate for him.

look at his record and stats, change his name to mayweather, change his body to mayweather - where would be be ranked then? he'd be proclaimed to be top 5 p4p easily. the guy is a legend, and should be ranked top15 p4p all time no questions asked.

Well, Floyd has taken on some big names. More recently especially. Kessler is a very good, if not great fighter, and has made me believe Calzaghe isn't just hype.. It took me watching Floyd vs Zab to believe Floyd is the real deal, and I still don't like him. Floyd has beaten an array of elite fighter types. He's beaten quick fighters (Zab). Traditional mexican fighters with good body work (Castillo). Big puncher (Corrales), Great technical boxer (De La Hoya). Great chinned enigma in Baldomir.

So far, big names I have seen Calzaghe beat are Kessler, who is a technical boxer puncher and a great victory.. Lacey who is a simple brawler without much technical boxing ability, still noteworthy. And Sheika, who was a well rounded boxer puncher.

If I saw names on his resume I would have him as #1 lb for lb.. But without a big name, even from the past, like a James Toney at 167, I cant justify having him as #1.. I do believe he is easily top 5 lb for lb.
