Of course, and that's why I asked if you guys thought it would help or hurt him. It could go either way depending on the fighter. One thing's for damns sure: If Berto loses, he will eventually bring up the earthquake and the distraction that it caused.

I have respect for Berto, and if he loses I dont see him using this as an excuse at all.

Ya, his family's home gets destroyed and tens of thousands people are killed, but i'm sure he's happy he's got an excuse for his fight.

How distasteful for you to take aa stab at berto in light of this ****ED UP situation that he is in. C'mon men, It's ok for you to ask how all this would affect him and all, but to sy he already has a built in excuse...Thats just low :-(

This actually is a new low on ESB, and there's some pretty ****ed up **** on this site.

I didn't mean it like that, and please there have been some really horrible things that have been said on ESB (I've been posting for almost 6 years). Don't lump this in with those things. What I meant is that the pressure is off him even more than before (he's the underdog) given the circumstances. It will be interesting to see if he performs better or worse considering what is going on in Haiti. As much as I hate excuses, if he used the earthquake as an excuse, I might actually cut him some slack.

Berto's defense and chin is too suspect for a grizzled old vet like mosley who still has some speed and punching power.

I feel the same way, and that's why I'm betting the under. I think Mosley stands a very good chance of stopping him unless the layoff and age catches up to him. He's a gym rat, so I don't think he'll get old overnight like De La Hoya did.

Berto UD. Said that before, and haven't changed my mind. Condolences to him on his losses and I hope the other family members he's waiting to hear from are okay.

Thats a pretty trifling comment about a very very serious and sad tragedy.

this is the only intelligent comment on this thread. Can we close this thread please- its makes us all look very very stupid and childish to bring up such a thing when thousands of our fellow people have died.

Expectations for Berto to succeed in this fight have been extremely low. There never was any pressure.

This is a good point. I don't expect to see Berto making any excuses either way.
