The problem w/ Berto, Alexander, Bradley, Maidana, Williams, Martinez...

  1. They lack charisma.

It's as simple as that. When you see Pac or Floyd, they ooze personality. There's something about their presence that makes the world pay attention. For Floyd, it's being a loud mouth, trash talking, woman-beating ****bag. It's not charismatic , but it's polarizing in a very effortless way. For Pac, it's his gentle nature of always smiling, laughing, and doing a million other things outside of boxing.

Enjoy Pac while he's still around, because there isn't a single cat in boxing (Floyd aside) who will bring the same excitement.

Khan has a chance because he seems like a "hearty bloke" with a marketable personality, but he won't reach Pac/Floyd levels.

    :hi:

This is a post I really agree with, and not because I'm a Khan fan.

I noticed the exact same thing.

All of whom you've mentioned seem so so blunt in their interviews from what I've noticed.

Honestly, Pac's charisma shows inside the ring. He has barely shown any throughout his career outside of it. He is more comfortable communicating with the media in english now so his sense of humor is showing, but charisma is not something I'd attach to Pacquiao. His fists speak for him and the media translates. His unique Filipino background gives him an edge with the public as well. Floyd isn't really charismatic either as you say, it's his brashness that polarizes fans and generates controversy.

I'm sure if more of the newer Latin (or any foreign) fighters were given more airtime they'd be able to develop public personalities. The top guys got a chance; Margarito was a tough semi-douchebag, Cotto was a respectful proud warrior, Marquez was a humble family man with a dedication bordering on fanaticism... Maidana doesn't have any interviews and all we know about him is he doesn't quit and likes to bang. Inside the ring though, he's one of the most exciting fighters out there today. Khan has a good personality for publicity but without another character it doesn't hold much weight.

I think drama has to emerge from a combination of two distinct personalities to compare and contrast. Without that, you just have names and the assumption that the viewer is familiar with their ring style. Few fighters are exciting enough to get fame on ring feats alone, especially if they lack the promotionally-backed advantages.

They "lack" charisma because they haven't been given a chance to shine! Before Pac defeated Barrera, nobody cared that Manny likes to sing. Nobody was offering him movie roles. He was just another promising prospect with a silly mustache and funny hairdo. It's his huge victories over legendary Mexicans that made Pac a star. It's not because of his personality. If it weren't for his status as a boxer he'd never be able to win an election as congressman. Pac can thank Barrera, Morales, and DLH for giving him a golden opportunity. I just hope Manny gives Berto, Bradley, Williams, etc. a chance to rise soon. They deserve it just as much as Manny did when he was hungry for a shot at Barrera.

I agree the typical fans would have a problem with recognizing them on the street wearing the casual dress ... maybe except Williams just because he is freak.

    I like:

    Pascal= his macho cocky personality.

canelo alvarez - red head, innocent looking guy.

Chavez jr. the ralph machio karate kid of boxing.

    Donaire - confident & intelligent.

    Benevidez - the nerdy look

Maidana - need some more Duran look. A little bit of Fear the Beard will help.

Khan -school boy with the cocky mouth.

    Martinez -Sexy Maravilla

Pwill, bradley, alexander, berto? they're all bland!!! need a makeover. get a hint from floyd!! be a badass & bad mouth!!!

I'd say they are 1-1 now in ducking.

Clearly blood testing was never an issue.

Benjamin please. Pac doesn't ooze personality. He is boring as hell. That is why he didn't get a 24/7 fighting Clottey. Pac was nobody until he could use Mayweather as the foil to sell his crap fights.

Stop talking about Mayweather's personal life. By the "million other things outside of boxing do you mean Pac being a ***** mongering, fake religion claiming, contract breaking, attempted murderer, who is willing to let his wife take the fall by implicating her in his assassination attempts.

Pac brings catch-weights, fake history, drug doubt, and lopsided fights to the boxing game. If that is your bag? More power to you *******.

What the hell are you talking about? Why do you keep trying to make friends "making it even".?

People around here have zero backbone. :bart

When did Mayweather duck? When has drug testing NOT been the issue?
