....is that he's Mexican. I'm sitting here watching the Marquez Pacquiao rematch and it's amazing how easy the fight is for Juan when he chooses to box. Manny is having all types of problems with Juan's movement and right hand lead/counter. Marquez is leading with hooks and straight right hands for which Pacquiao has no answer. The problem with Marquez, as I see it, is that he allows Pacquiao to goad him into a brawl where Pacquiao then has the advantage. Anyone who thinks it's going to be a blowout for Pacquiao is delusional...
Yeah, Marquez allowed Pacquiao to have success. He wanted to be punched in the face and to be repeatedly put on his ass. This was all his choice. Those silly Mexicans! Glutton for punishment. "I guess I could dominate you and be considered one of the greatest fighters of all time, but nah, I'll just let you hit me."
Marquez is surely one of these fighters who was far too late in getting his dues.To think he went to Indonesia to fight Chris John for $35k not that long ago.(Think you could have John down for a 20 count in Indonesia and still lose a UD!) and was known for a long time as a defensive counterpuncher only. The guy is one of the great modern warriors and I urge everyone to enjoy and appreciate him while he's still around because the game will be poorer without him.Sorry for going a bit off-thread but I feel strongly about this.
I remember Stewart saying when fighting Pacquiao he makes you fight you have spots where you can box, but the way he fights he makes you engage in a brawl and fight a faster pace then your use to.
He can avoid punishment, its just that being Mexican makes him sado masochistic. He loves taking punishment, damn sangre Mexicana! This content is protected
Perhaps we should credit Manny Pacquiao for having the athleticism, speed, and punching ability to land punches on JMM? No? Just a thought.
Marquez always waited for Pac in his fights. Pac was still the aggressor. Not JMM. And if JMM fought more cautiously, he would also land less.
Yep, JMM fights better when hes pressured. Hes a great counterpuncher and a master at setting traps in high speed. Even when his back was to the ropes against Katsidis and Diaz, he was picking them apart on the inside. Obviously Mannys another animal, but your point is correct.
Exellent post. I've pointed to Marquez being too aggressive on the counter as being one of his weaknesses. Against a fighter as dangerous as Pacquiao, you do enough to win the exchange and the round. Marquez however is a type where he can dominate the first 2:30 of a round and not be content if he does'nt dominate the last 30 seconds. In other words, where most fighters would play it clever against a dangerous type like Pacquiao and reduce there workrate and not take so many chances when a round is already in the bank, Marquez keeps on fighting and throwing multi punch combinations the full 3 minutes of a round. When a round has been dominted throroughly where there is no mistake you've won it, why keep on leaving it on the line down the last seconds of a round when you've already banked it? I think this third time vs Pacquiao, Marquez is going to have to be mindful not to get into heated exchanges in closing rounds when its plain to see he's already banked the round. Not only does Marquez leave himself vulnerable to knockdowns when he does this, he give's Pacquiao the opportunity to land a couple of those straight lefts of his that then give a judge the excuse they need to turn the round over to Pacquiao based on one or two punches closing a round when Marquez has already dominated almost the full round.
I've noticed in both their fights that when Pacquiao would get countered hard by Marquez, Pacquiao would retreat to reset. This continually happened, and when Pacquiao was on the retreat, Marquez did'nt wait for Pacquiao, he went after him and put the pressure on Pacquiao. This is a good thing as Pacquiao is'nt as effective when he's being pressed. .....but it also takes me back to my last post. Marquez should think about holding back and not be so aggressive when Pacquiao backtracks, and I'm talking specifically when Marquez has banked a round that cant be misconstrued for a Pacquiao round. When Marquez has thoroughly dominated a round, he should'nt leave himself open by being overly aggressive against Pacquiao. Be aggressive throughout, but only on the counter, when Pacquiao is attacking him.
I guess I'm delusional! :rofl You wanna make easy money betting a delusional boxing fan that this fight will be a blow out in Pacs favor? I got a G STACK that has your name on it if you are intersted in walking what you're talking. I'm still looking to get someone to take a bet this year on ESB. It wasn't this hard last year to get someone to take a gamble.
Should've been twice, Pac knocked him into the ropes which held Marquez up after he got up from the first KD. Pac also wobbled him late in the fight with a perfect counter he could never have seen. There is no easy way to beat Pac. He'll always present a risk to even the best counter-punchers with his speed, foot speed, power, two handedness enabling him to land big punches from all kinds of angles. No-one beats Pac fighting a conservative fight just running and pot shotting and taking no risks.
