The problem with the Mundine Green dynamic...

They generate the most publicity.

I agree, Peden had a couple of really good wins there. But other than that?

Meehan is an average fighter. Brewster and Meehan were also friends. Brewster was a title holder but not a legitimate champion. Brewster is a limited fighter anyhow.

Katsidis is definitely one of boxing' more exciting fighters. Vic has definitely achieved a lot.

Mundine-Green produced the biggest fight in Australian history. That says a lot there. All these other guys have had some success overseas. But Mundine especially has put boxing back on the map in Australia. Which is why I get disappointed when he comes up with these clown fights in the latter parts of his career.

 

As a country, Australian sports fans are fairly unschooled and mostly clueless about boxing. They eat up whatever is given to them, and for as long as I can remember, theres been a heap of bull**** written in the media, etc when it comes to boxing.

Make a name for yourself, then you can manipulate the public. Thats basically all there is too it.

 

They've just marketed themselves brilliantly. Green and Mundine are their own boss, can't knock em for that.. I do feel bad for Briggs, especially for gettin taken for a ride by that Firepower grub, but Green and Mundine both took the risk of self promotion and it paid off for them so good on 'em.

 

Agree,would be nice to see some of the other guys get some more publicity.
But briggs and karli meehan in front of a camera were about as exciting as a pregnant granny pornsite.
And i know it shits people when i say it but try to think about how popular green was when he first started out.
None of us gave a toss until he started saying he wants to fight mundine so green and fenech started this little duel that has now seen green rise to be a very popular boxer.
Bottom line............if a boxer called Sven Massuer migrated to oz,screamed black and blue he could beat mundine,had a few fights first and won them easy and then eventually gave mundine a run for his money.........HE WOULD BE OUR NEW FAVOURITE SON......WHY...
Because of mundine...love him or loathe him,if you mention you can fight and beat him you become immediately well liked.

it had nothing to do with briggs and meehan being as exciting...pornsite. that's nonsense and disrespectful. it was simply because boxing is a minority sport.

mundine already had a huge audience because league is so popular and talked alot of absolute crap in the press because it was the only way to keep people watching his movements as he fought **** opponents early on. it was because of the rubbish that came out of mundines gob that made green want to try and shut the **** up. there is nothing wrong with that. big deal. u think mundine deserves a pat on the back now don't u.

 

vic darchinyan is not marketable here because his english is shithouse and as such australians don't feel that he is one of us properly. tszyu's english was shithouse but he has a very good sense of humour and he seemed to want to engage the public.

 

Its got everything to do with them not being as exciting.
Think about how any person aus or worldwide has attention thrown upon them when they do or say something stupid.
Who the F$%K is paris hilton,what does she do...............just stupid **** and the media rubs our noses in it every week and i cant stand her but i bet we all know who she is...............John McEnroe was way before my time.....but he chucks a few tantrems and his racket around and now we all know who he is.............and i dont even follow tennis.....
And even if you hate golf or dont follow it................we all know who tiger woods is now,even if you didnt before.
The media ensure bad news travels fast,good news travels slow,so when mundine puts the clown act on its printed or shown everywhere.
But when briggsy or meehan hold a press conference and act as cool as cucumbers,come across nice and sensible.......nobodys ears ***** up and say..............hey this guy seems intresting.
But when Tyson says he wants to eat his opponents children and we here about it immediately.

Going back to your previous post regarding Mundine - the reason for the sudden fame for anyone who says they are going to knock him over is that he's such an obnoxious *****!

How anyone could actually respect him and pay $50 to see him in non-contest after non-contest is beyond me.

 

What about Darchinyan then , he talks all the **** in the world , is relatively exciting , was undisputed , why is he small time luds?
