Think someone said it already..... His english kills him but then again on the other hand i dont recall the media ever reporting he talks **** or showing us any bad footage. Plus most of his fights are overseas so out of sight out of mind. If he was a super middleweight and was calling out mundine i bet his exposure would be far greater and he would have adoring fans everywhere.
True, and when he beat Mundine he'd be loved for all time. The 1st Aussie who beats Mundine will probably get a knighthood - the English cricket team did for winning the Ashes, and some of them achieved little before and less since.
ya beat me to it re: luds' earlier post that was actually good - even a busted clock gets the time right twice a day :yep
"Whaaaaaat! You cannot be serious!" luds! For the record, McEnroe was a champion tennis player with or without the tantrums!!!!! (I've also given up watching tennis since he retired too - bunch of similarly styled robots!)
luds green beat one of the greatest of all time, get over it. it aint something mundine will ever come close to achieving so green don't need mundine. green was also well entrenched in boxing before mundine. he was full page pics 3 days running during the 2000 olympics! mundine was still palying his race card (yes he is mongrel breed and always will be) in rugby. green also had fenech, australia's greatest of all time so you got it all back to front- mudnine used them!! :good
Sorry shiner, many on here wont say it but your 100 percent wrong. I realise green was in the olympics,i realise fenech trained him and green may now no longer need mundine...............BUT Greeny never got the publicity he needed or wanted until he began to shout out he will knock the bloke out everybody loves to hate. Thats why greens first 15 or so fights hardly made the papers, and when they did fenechs name would always get a mention because green was still relativley unknown. If mundine never fought green, then im sorry to say but he would not be the household name he is becoming. Once people watched green, even though he lost to choc they began to follow him and like the way he comes across:tired:tired:tiredbut remember it took the mundine fight for him to really become recognised. I know a few tuned into beyer..but aussies who arent into boxing had never heard of beyer so it was hard to gain a new following from that fight. Say 30,000 plus showed up at the mundine/green fight and how many ppv to all the places it was shown, thats when he really got the ball rolling...say about 3 years ago. And green didnt beat one of the greats of all time....he beat the name of the guy who was one of the greats of all time.........thats all that was left of rjj.
luds, rubbish! tiger woods is well known because he is considered the best golfer ever. mconroe was well known because he was considered amongst the best tennis players, his tantrums just made it easier to recognise him. mike tyson was well known because he shocked the world by winning the world heavyweight title as a kid, his downfall following just kept him in the headlines more often when his boxing skills didn't. these other aussies didn't grab headlines because they hadn't gone far enough to make it happen. because boxing is a minority sport here, fighting for a world title sometimes isn't good enough. they would have to win a legit world title before it would begin to make waves. if meehan were to get a title shot against wlad klitschko, he would have a reasonable amount of media coverage, but he would have to knock the guy out before he would be splashed around all the aussie papers and tv staions. u can gaurantee that the media would get behind him then as his story of getting a title shot is a good one. green got splashed around the media because he did what most people thought he couldn't possible do and he was already well known. he shocked the world literally. if i was green i would go directly to america and try and go on every good or bad television show and make the most of the fame. he could almost double his next payday by doing so. it doesn't matter about the particular belt that he holds etc. he only has to make people know who he is. america would like his character so to speak. like i said, vic's problem is that he comes across as a guy who is fighting for armenia but has accommodation and trains in australia. i'm sure he is proud of armenia and proud to be aussie and likes to think he is as aussie as everyone else but most people just haven't bought it yet. if he was able to speak properly and tone down the cold blooded thug persona a bit when interviewed then it would be so much easier to promote him.
You are ignoring one major factor Luds.... TONY MUNDINE What would have become of "The Man" if his father was not a well respected fighter in this country. In Mundines early days it was as much about his manager trainer father as it was about "The Man".... You can bang on all you like about Green being a no one til Fenech came on the scene but your brutal Mundine nut hugging makes you blind to the bleeding obvious and spells in capitol ****ing letters...HYPOCRASY!
Some of your points are valid and some of mine are as well. Just because your good at a sport mate doesnt always mean your immediately recognised. I cant tell you who is the womens snowboarding champion of the world. I cant tell you who are the mens ice hockey champions of the world. I cant tell you who is the best basketball team in the world.. WHY.........because it doesnt intrest me.....BUT if any one of those people invovled in those sports was splashed across my tv screen or in my newspaper on a regular basis for good or bad publicity i would know who they were whether i liked it or not.
