Anyone who wants MORE Divisions in Boxing is an idiot. We need LESS Divisions need to go back to the original 8. Would really clean up the sport.
Voted no, but I do like the idea of a tinkering with the weights between LH and CW and HW to make it a lil more sensible.
Most here seem to agree on that part, but nobody seems to wanna defend their stance on why there should be such a division... I'm pretty sure there were more as 2 guys here that strongly agreed that it was necessary.
There's an argument for including SMW in that. There is a jump of 8lbs from MW to SMW, and then only 7lbs to LHW before the big leap to CW. The three weights from MW to HW should really be better spaced out. There would be resistance to any change in the LHW limit, simply on the basis that it is a traditional weight class and the limits have been set in stone for a century.
NO, there are many "super heavyweights" that will lose to "ordinary" heavyweights, skill is what separates Vitali and Wlad from the others, the fact they let Wlad clinch as much as he wants is terrible because he has skills to win without being allowed to clinch non stop, every non biased fan knows its illegal!!!
why don't we start letting them wear ***** bar headgear and 20 oz gloves while we're at it. fookin puhcees. smh.
SHW? I don't think it is worth establishing it's own division for a handful of behemoths. There'd be no fights after a few months. Or at least pseudo- competitive fights.
Good post Robney and no, I am firmly against a superheavyweight division. Bad for boxing and wouldn't work like others think it would.
Seems they would have to either 1) disrupt the traditional weight classes of MW and LHW by changing the weights, or 2) Add a weight class. Pick your poison. I guess faced with those choices, I'd add a weight class at 190. Bump CW up to 210.
No, the problem is that Wladimir is just to good for this division at the moment. The only one that can challenge Wladimir and make it competetive would be David haye, if he manages to get to the inside.
There's too many divisions now. I'd like to see 9 divisions, something like: flyweight: 110 bantamweight: 118 featherweight: 126 lightweight: 135 welterweight: 147 light-middleweight: 160 middleweight: 175 light heavyweight: 200 heavyweight: 200 + If the media would pay more attention to the cruiserweight division, a lot of people like Adamek, Boytsov and Povetkin might be fighting in that division. Eddie Chambers said he never had a problem making 200, he fought at HW for bigger paydays. Adamek has said the same.
There's still only one who went for the "YES. And I have a good reason that I will state below." option, but I can't find it anywhere... thechosen1, would you please be so kind posting that good reason of yours? :blood
shifting up all upper weight classes slightly to accommodate the higher average height and weight that people are today is not a bad idea. After all previous weight divisions are based on historical averages and these have changed. Denigration of existing accomplishments is a possible problem with this.
