Just like all other rivalries among Hispanic countries....like Puerto Rico and Venezuela in beauty contests, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic in baseball, like Argentina and Brasil, Chile and Mexico in football. After all, outside that we call each other brother and sister culturally, when one of those countries suffers a tragedy or is at war, and at other times. In fact if a Mexican is fighting a Japanese Puerto Ricans root for the Mexican and Im sure its the other way. also.. Mexicans loved Menudo (the Puerto Rican band) and we love Veronica Castro and Lucia Mendez.. Not to mention you will find streets named after a city in another Latin country or named after another Latin country in every Latin country.... That puzzles me...
To be honest, I'm not sure where the confusion lies? I think most people work from the inside out. From a personal perspective, I care about my family first, then friends and then strangers. Perhaps it's the same way in boxing. You root for your countrymen first, then those from neighboring countries and, lastly, everyone else.
It’s Boxing 101: They gonna get it on, because they don’t get along. I love this age-old rivalry and am grateful for it. There are exceptions, of course, but generally Puerto Rican fighters lean toward being stylists (or at least having some slickness) while Mexican fighters tend to be brawlers and bangers. Makes for a great contrast.
Thats how I see it. But what I mean is in the sense that if we are "hermanos" then there shouldnt be a rivalry..although brohters and sister do have rivalries sometimes lol
