It's not quite true that we don't know. We know with a high degree of certainty that Ward would have won. First, he was up on two of the three cards. But that was before the 8th, which would be a 10-8 round. That would leave Kov down 3 on two cards, hurt badly, and exhausted. So he would have to run the table -- win 9, 10, 11, 12 on two cards to win the fight and doing all this in a severely compromised state.

So we can say with a high degree of certainty that that would not have happened. Could it have happened? Yes. The sun may not rise tomorrow also. Ot I might be struck by lightning. Many improbable things could happen.

I just watched the ending sequence. Tell me if you see something different:
Ward leans Kov into the ropes
    Ref steps into break them.
    Kov throws TWO shots
Ward counters with 2 consectutive shots to the body. The last of the two being the one that the replay shows as low and forcing Kov into the ropes. Kovs hands go low and the ref steps in to stop the fight.

Until the last 2 body shots, kov WAS defending himself and he was throwing punches. He threw 2 other punches that ward ducked before the sequence I just mentioned.

My legit complaint is the LAST blow was low. It was an illegal punch and the fight was topped on that punch.

This is a much better argument than any of the others.

Was the 8th round going to be 10-8? Not sure about that, particularly if Meeks doesn't allow the low blow(s) or deducts for the low blow(s).

Your point, however, does go back to the entire judging issue. And as I've said elsewhere on the board, how the judges scored the 19 completed rounds in the two fights should give Duva and Team Kovalev pause.

You out-threw and out-landed the guy, including in power punches, and you're behind?

Tough situation. And it's true that maybe the writing was on the wall for Kovalev one way or the other, fair or not.

That's what happened to Pacquiao in Vegas when he fought Bradley, the American fighter, in their first fight.

You can fold all that yak up and sit on. Kovalev had plenty of time grab and hold Ward to clear his head. Sitting on his butt and trying to get up was just a sign of surrender. I have seen it before and so had Weeks and that's why he stopped the fight. Naw, he didn't have to pull out no AK but he did have to fight and he didn't do that. The ref says at the start, protect yourself at all times so why the hell is he waiting on the ref to protect him. This fight took place exactly where it needed to take place because if you're a man, you gonna be a man where ever you are at and if you are a fighter, you are gonna fight where ever you are at. Ask Earl Spence or Gervonta Davis, or Brook, or Frampton, or GGG. Kovalev is just weak and he got his ho card pulled. You can bet your last dollar on that.

Have you ever heard of quality effective punching, have you ever heard of defense, have you ever heard of slipping punches and counter punching? Have you ever heard of body punching, punch variety. (one guy throwing only straights the other guy throwing body punches, hooks, uppers, etc) Have you ever heard of landing the best punches in a round, the punches that have the most force and the most impact?

The stats are what they are. And they don't help Ward's case. In either fight.

Of course there are other issues involved in scoring criteria.

But if you are Team Kovalev, what would you think? What would you think if you're Team Pacquiao following Bradley 1 in Vegas?

I'm pretty sure Duva wanted Ward-Kovalev 2 outside the USA.

Didn't happen. As is the case with most Ward fights, he gets to set the location.

Gotta wonder why that seems so important to him.

    lol

Usually when people can't out-argue you, they will resort to name calling. This is known as an "ad hominem" attack.

    Meh.

"Shots right here 5 inches below the belt are fine!"

Have you EVER heard a ref say that during the pre-fight instructions?? I haven't! It was a low blow that the dumb ref ended it on. Period!
