Whats the one punch you just cant avoid? Im a southpaw, and I see the left hook coming from a mile away from a conventional fighter, and can get under it and step out. But the straight right hand seems to allways find its home on my face. :-(
I'm a short guy and a good overhand right can find it's way to my head when I am rushing in if I am not careful.
I get the same thing in south, luckily its only a straight shot, better than susceptibility to a right hook. There's a few good counters for it, but the safest escape I find, is to shift over to the left a little while parrying it inwards with your left hand.
The one I don't see coming. I'm really tall for my weight, so as long as I'm focused on my opponent I can usually tell when he's about to fire and what's coming. Sadly, with my height and my opponents shortness, I almost never have straight punches thrown at me, just wild ass hooks. My last opponent was pretty quick and decent actually, he came out and started boxing with me and jabbing....as soon as he ate a 1-2 for his troubles (several of them and the kab early on, actually), he went nuts.
I'll tell you when someone throws a real one and not a lunging, wild, fall on my face if I miss one at me. Gabriel through a good one at me but I blocked it pretty well actually, I was impressed I actually blocked it so reflexively when I watched the tape. The old instincts are coming back. When I sparred with Lee in London though, he threw a fast as **** hook upstairs to my head that I never saw and it had great technique on it. It was in like the 13th round of our sparring and God, it made my legs just want to give. That hurt.
