    Goosen on rumors that Williams will vacate WBO title;

    "That is completely incorrect. We are looking to defend the WBO title in November....We put an offer on the table of $4 million dollars to Margarito, but he refused to accept it. He doesn't have an excuse. He knows that he cant beat Paul. We are looking for the biggest fights, whether it be Margarito or Cotto. Paul wants to fight the best between 147 and 160-pounds."

    Williams on fighting Cotto;

    "I'm not going to drop the WBO title. I am just experiencing other divisions, but I still feel comfortable making 147-pounds and I consider myself the best at the weight. I would fight Cotto, but the problem is that nobody wants to accept our challenge,"

    Cotto should take this fight. I've seen many on this board claim Cotto will beat Williams easily. It would be a good way for him to get his career back on track. He can fight Williams in early 2009, and then fight Margo again in the spring or summer if he wins.

    Williams should stay at 147, as long as he can make it without weakening. He can exploit his physical advantages to their fullest at welter.
    I think Cotto could take him, but Paul beats Margo in a rematch.
    But Marg beats Cotto everytime IMHO.

    This makes plenty of sense. Just because Williams already beat Margo, is a title holder, and is a top 3 welter, doesn't mean that he has earned another shot. Clearly Cotto is more deserving after getting beat up and calling it quits. Who cares if Williams knocked out Quintana in 1 round? He lost by decision the first time. This clearly should be held against him his entire career. Meanwhile, all of Margo's losses should be forgotten.

    Cotto and Williams should fight in early 2009. If Williams beats Cotto, then beats Clottey, then Mosley, then Berto, then Quintana again, then Cotto again, then maybe, just maybe, he will have earned a rematch against a guy he already beat.

    How can Goosen say they want the best but when Margarito requested a rematch after the first fight..he went after Cintron then ended up fighting Quintana..two guys who were just KTFO by Margarito and Cotto...

    Im confused :huh ..

    Also, Andy Kolle isnt the "best "

    Yup, and Cotto should jump in the front of the line despite losing. That makes all the sense in the world. He has no title and was beat into submission. He's definately more deserving than a title holder who owns a victory over Margo. So what if Williams is willing to fight all the top fighters at 147(not just Margo). Until these guys agree to fight him, he doesn't deserve a shot against a guy whose belt he already took.

    Williams screwed himself. He went after a unification match after beating Margo. Yeah, he offered Margo a fight after Cintron pulled out, and his promoter offered Margo $4mill for a fight recently. It doesn't matter though, his promoter didn't offer a rematch immediately. Margo has the right to avoid Williams for the rest of his career because of this.

    these debates are really silly cuz the Anti- Margarito posters just dont want to accept that Williams told Margo NO..so Marg moved moved on and beat the #1 guy in the division..Now he is telling Williams to wait.

    WHy is this over looked are you PW bandwagon jumpers actually THAT biased? He didnt want to give him a rematch then lost to someone Cotto crushed... he did it to himself.. We arent saying Margarito shouldnt fight Williams..but we arent gonna give him crap if he doesnt do it in his next fight.. cuz Williams didnt....:deal

    THE difference is Margarito isnt like Williams..he is willing to give Cotto a rematch..a chance to avenge his loss. Somehting Quintana gave to Williams and something Williamsa nd Goosen told Margarito no to, until now..

    Margarito was the WBO title holder for YEARS defended it 7-8 times.. Williamd wins, tells Margarito no to the rematch then loses :lol:

    when Williams had more marketing value than Margarito, Williams didn't want to fight Margarito. Now that Margarito has more marketing value than Williams, Margarito doesn't want to fight Williams. Thats the story of boxing. Both realise that its a hard fight, and only want to take it if the reward is worth the risk.

    Goosen admits that Paul wants to fight the best between 147 and 160 lbs so that's almost the same as saying that they don't give a Damn about the WBO title. Like everyone else, they are looking for the paydays and since no one is willing to take their challenge, why don't the most "avoided" guys meet each other and continue their quest in being the most "avoided"? Forrest-Williams now!

    Good post. Williams beat Margo and then went after a unification bout against Cintron(the same Cintron that Margo fans claim is such a good win for Margo). After Cintron pulled out, Margo was offered a chance to replace Cintron. After Margo rebuffed(along with Mosley, and Judah), Quintana was picked. Margo was sent another offer recently.

    It doesnt matter though. Going after a unification bout against a guy Margo fans claim is such a good fighter instead of fighting a guy he just beat and then later offering Margo a rematch, clearly proves that Williams doesn't want to fight the best. So what if he went after Cotto, Floyd, Shane, and Pavlik. All of that doesn't matter. He's fighting Kolle in a tuneup bout before his title defense two months later. This is unacceptable. He should fight Golden Johnson instead. That would prove he's serious about fighting the best.

    Wiliams isn't doing enough. He should sell all his possesions, and have a big fund raiser in order to offer the likes of Cotto, and Shane monster purses so that they'll agree to fight him. Maybe he can take out a loan and offer Margo $10 million. Maybe that will be enough to get Margo to agree to a rematch. Scratch that, it isn't about the money. Williams doesn't deserve to fight Margo again. I mean, he did go after a unification bout against a top 5 welter instead of immediately fighting Margo again. Williams is what's wrong with boxing.

    Yup, Williams needs to wait. He did say he would be willing to fight Cotto or Shane. Maybe one of those guys should fight him while he waits for Margo to agree to fight him.

    Great post. Williams did offer Margo a fight last year after Cintron pulled out. And he did offer Margo a rematch right after the fight. He has gone on record plenty of times since that fight saying he would be willing to fight Margo again. This is a clear indication that he didn't want to fight Margo.

    Williams should go for Santos at 154. That would be a damn good fight. Santos would never turn down a 4 million $ payday, thats for sure.
