On February 9, the WBA Federation set the date of the tender, which will select the organizer of the fight for a regular heavy weight belt between Manuel Charr (31-4, 17 KO) and Frees Oquendo (37-8, 24 KO). By that time, boxers' representatives still have time to reach an agreement without a contest of offers. The World Boxing Association has not set a minimum amount to enter the tender. The fight will have to take place within 90 days of its settlement. The regular heavyweight WBA belt from November belongs to Charr, who won it, winning points with Aleksander Ustinow. The 44-year-old Oquendo last boxed more than three years ago, losing points to Ruslan Chagayev. The contract for this duel contained a compulsory rematch, so the Puerto Rican patiently waited for his chance. Oquendo did not receive a payout for clash with Czagayev because the tests in his body revealed the presence of prohibited doping substances. However, the credibility of the presented results was undermined, and the WBA federation recognized the arguments of the Puerto Rican camp as sufficient. The heavyweight WBA heavyweight champion is Anthony Joshua, who will fight the closest fight on March 31, crossing gloves with Josep Park
I love it how someone can just come in with a ridiculously low bid, win it and then either Fres of Charr might pull out. Fingers crossed.
Calling it now, no one will post a sufficient bid in the first pass and the fight will be endangered. This happened with a wba joke lesser belt a year or two ago. They are a trainwreck.
Hmm maybe I should put in a bid, they can fight in my back garden, lol. £100 quid might just do it. I'll charge £5 per ticket, feel free to bring your own drinks guys.
Id gladly do some online marketing. We can stream it on YouTube(Henney boy FTW!) and get some local fast food joint to sponsor the whole thing.
If i was rich(like actually rich rich), i would get the rights and hold it in a gym with no TVs or live audience. Well... maybe have one tiny guy in the audience lol: made myself laugh).
It's a good question. Maybe some other broadcaster. I think Box Nation will pick it up for obvious reasons. This broadcast will help them promote Fury's future fight with the winner.
The news everybody has been waiting to hear! Will this be the first championship purse bid to ever not hit quadruple digits?
