Calzaghe's way has always been to fight his own fight. Study tapes too long and you will suffer analysis paralysis. It's good to know what you are up against but you can't plan for every scenario.
Good preparation. Zellenoff + Hopkin's are very similar, both trash talkers from the hood who throw 5 punches a round.
I agree, I'd 'like' to see him KO'd in the first 20 seconds, he can go back to his computer games then.
Is the full undercard decided ? Would be nice to see Craig Mcewan on it.Im guessing he has been helping Hopkin's in some manner of sparring being he is fast handed and a south paw middleweight. Anyone got any news regarding Hopkins sparring partners ? cheers
when i seen him ringside for the rees fight i thought that JC should have been in america by then, gettin used to weather and time and ****, and surely fwank could have set him up at a camp over there with decent sparring
I heard Hopkins was sparring Craig Mcewan but he was pulled out cos he was bein punished or either knocked out, i cant remember exactly were i read this as im just out of hospital and my heads a bit ****ed with all the codeine im taking, but i remember Freddie Roach saying it was a fighter with a 9-0 record which is what Mcewan has, in the article no names were mentioned but i know he was supposed to be sparring Hopkins before i read this, will try to find it and quote from it.
I found that article "at 43 Hopkins is a superbley conditioned atlete" said Roach "hes hurt me a few times doing the mitts He just gets so intense. In one sparring session he knocked down this kid with a 9-0 record and i called it off because i didnt want the guy to get seriously injured" I personally beleive this is Mcewan who is also a Roach fighter and it was made clear when the fight was announced that he would be sparing Hopkins and also feature on the undercard.
hey cheers tko, yep id presume it was Craig Mcewan also, pleased to hear he is on the undercard. Nice forum btw, been reading for a year, no need for me to post as everything is well covered here.:good Hairy :thumbsup
I dont think Calzaghe will be underprepared by any means for the fight, I am certain there will be a back up plan. I seen something on Hbo after the woods/tarver (showtime) fight on saturday/sunday, a count down to calzaghe hopkins. It showed Hopkins with his dream team corner, I must say i was very impressed with the fitness trainer guy. They ran Nard' through a series of scientific tests to see what condition his body was in and the optimal training regime. I was very impressed by Hopkins attitude towards the fight.
