Right now the Ring Magazine's "175 pound Champion" slot is vacant.

Most people agree that there is no top dog at the weight right now.

Bernard Hopkins inherited lineal dominion over the division when he beat up Antonio Tarver, but has since gone 4-1 in four years, with the last two wins being over lesser competition (no disrespect to Ornelas, nor the man Jones used to be) and the first two being over men who are about a far from natural Light Heavies as you can get.

Even if Bernard's still clinging to the throne in some people's minds, he's getting on up there and won't be around forever.

Soon we have Chad Dawson vs. Jean Pascal and Tavoris Cloud vs. Glen Johnson - two fights arguably involving four of the top five men actively campaigning at 175.

My question is, does the winner of Dawson-Pascal deserve to be the recognized champion? Does he need the winner of Cloud-Johnson. Does the winner of that superfight then require yet another big name to lay claim to the undisputed #1 spot?

How close are we to a new coronation? :think

For a while i was thinking Dwason was and still is the best. Hopkins at the minute seems to think he is with the group of fighters that don't need to fight low names to make there name even though there is no names at his weight.

Pascal is a good fighter but Dawson should beat him easily IMO. Also i don't think Pascal has a major claim to the crown of best Light Heavy more a top contender.

Johnson has already been beating by Dawson badly in the 2nd fight and i don't see how he could change that.

While Cloud i see as the young fighter on his way to being a very very good challenger to Dawson's crown.

IMO Dawson already is the Light Heavyweight number 1. If B-Hop decides to fight for recognition rather than money he could lay a big stake to that crown though but i have a feeling its all about the money

Dawson is the best LHW at the moment, if he beats Pascal yeah I consider him the best LHW. That's a big IF.

Imo its a done deal, Pascal can't really deal with a good jab. Forch stopped him in his tracks with his and although its underrated at times Frochs jab isn't close to competing with Chads. Pascals only way of winning is his pressure but since he moved to Light heavy he seems to fight in bursts imo bursts won't do much against a fighter like Dawson. I'll go out on a limb and say Dawson will win a wide points descision maybe dropping the first few before he finds his rhythm. Pressure is the best way to beat Chad as he doesn't seem to work the full 3 minutes but he has adapted since Johnson showed this. I just don't think Pascal has it in him to do this to Dawson. Would like him to prove me wrong though as I'm a fan of Pascals and not such a huge Dawson fan.

Dawson is the best fighter @ LHW right now, but if Cloud gets past Johnson (something I expect him to do with relative ease), then Chad has to fight him to be crowned the best. If Johnson wins, then Dawson is the best by default, no need to have a third match between those two considering how easily Chad beat the 'Road Warrior' last time they met. Also, Cloud would look pretty bad if he lost to Johnson, while Dawson toyed with the man. This would definitely show that Cloud is not ready for Dawson yet.

Let's not forget about the WBO scene (as most of us Americans are apt to) - two solid contenders in Murat and Cleverly are about to go at it in an eliminator for a crack at Braehmer. We could be two fights away from a serious challenger emerging to join the race with Dawson/Pascal/Cloud/Hopkins, if one of the contenders wins in very dominant fashion and then either dominates or is dominated by Braehmer.

I think Clev and Murat are around the same as Cloud maybe a slight step behind. Braehmer isn't someone i would worry about i think Clev and Murat would take him in a close but clear fight. Also i think Jurgen is off for some time in a cell soon. A fighter i would be interested in seeing at a return to Light heavy is Erdei, who the winner of Clev Murat could face and that could be a tasty fight.

Not seen much of Murat but from what i have seen Clev could take him but he (Clev) has regressed since he found his power imo.

Where are the usually vocal BHop faithful? :think

Could the silence be a tacit confession that he hasn't retained the keys to the kingdom with his poor schedule - or have they just now shown up yet?

Well, that's what was proclaimed by a noisy majority at the time.

I think Dawsons the best but after a win over Pascal and then a win Cloud would make it un arguable I think.

I consider Hopkins out of the equation. Dawson is the best right now at LHW: I expect Pascal to make him shine by putting pressure on him. Cloud is not active enough (DK fighter) + Braehmer could be interesting but Erdei not. And Cleverly needs more seasoning but could turn out to be a very good challenge later.

Didn't the white boy beat Hopkins for the Light Heavyweight crown?
