The winner of Dawson-Pascal vs. Cloud-Johnson should get the title. Hopkins isn't willing to fight the top dogs, he would rather chew on the bones of an old and shot Old Roid Jr.

Dawson is the clear cut number one. He has the most impressive wins of anyone fighting in the division. Hell one of the guys he completely dismantled and took his belt is making hay at the heavyweight division.

For those saying it's Dawson right now already - they do fight the fights for a reason. Even if you favor him over Pascal, he hasn't beaten him yet. The outcomes are not yet written...for all we know Johnson could upset Cloud and then go on to beat Pascal (after Jean himself upsets Dawson), and Johnson would then be...the #1 at 175, despite having suffered a horrifically one-sided loss to Dawson in their rematch? :think

See how things can get a bit complicated?

What the hell argument could there POSSIBLY be that Bernard is the man at 175? He had the ring title and lost it to Calzaghe. Since then, he's fought a couple of middleweights and shot to **** Roy Jones.

If ANYONE has an argument that he's currently light heavyweight champ, it's Zsolt Erdei, who isn't even on the poll. HE is the ACTUAL lineal champ (beat Gonzalez, who beat Michalczewski, who beat Hill, who beat Maske), although I'd just as soon ignore his existence at this point.

Hopkins hasn't fought a ranked LHW since beating Tarver five years ago, and he looked like **** his last two fights. He's not ranked near the top for me anymore. Dawson is the clear #1 at the moment for me, while Johnson and Pascal are 2/3 in some order. Since Dawson already beat Johnson twice recently, for me, the Dawson-Pascal winner would become the man in the division.

    I agree. :good

He is. His name's in option 3, which nobody's picked.

If the winners of Cloud-Johnson and Dawson-Pascal meet, the victor there would pretty much have to be perceived as nullifying any claim held by anyone else, including Erdei (or Braehmer, who has Erdei's old WBO belt).

So if Cloud manages to stop Johnson, or otherwise win even more impressively than Dawson did in the rematch, would the Dawson-Pascal winner need him or could they duck him and still claim to be #1?

Dawson is the man at 175 and IMO the best fighter in the world not named PBF.

Cloud is too wide open to deal with a guy like Dawson. Cloud will get busted up and beaten to the punch all night long if they meet.

You have a sick, sick mind. :blood

LOL j/k man, yeah anything can happen in boxing, that's why we love it. To be fair, though, the scenario you suggested is a bit immoderate. Too many upsets.

No, imo he would have to fight him to clear any doubts about his #1 status.

If Johnson somehow beat Cloud, though, do you think Dawson should fight him for a third time? I think not.

I favor Cloud over Johnson, and Dawson slightly over Pascal. However, Pascal winning is excellent news for Johnson (if he gets by or exposes Cloud). Chad just has his number, especially now that's well figured him out over 24 rounds. Pascal, stylistically, is a much better match-up for Glen. Jean is far more susceptible to getting drawn into pocket exchanges with the slower-armed but powerful Johnson, and he could get himself KTFO if he's not smart (especially since Froch was able to buzz him and I'll bet dollars to donuts that if you could measure the straight-up - not p4p - hitting force of Froch and Johnson, the old man would blow him clean out of the water).

Certainly not. In terms of perceived ability right now, most people probably see it as something like Dawson #1, Pascal #2, Cloud #3, Johnson #4.

If Johnson beats Cloud, it will be more of an exposure, since Cloud is perceived to be world-class but losing to Johnson would raise questions that he ever was, since Gonzalez and Woods were both a bit spent (and most people think Johnson is, too). So the reasoning will be that Cloud should never have even been as high as #4, and if the guy who's #3 has a pair of losses to the #1, then that situation has been resolved and all that matters is what happens between #1 and #2.

Upon further thought, however - if Cloud looks excellent, and Johnson still turns back the clock and beats him, that may create a situation where he's the preeminent contender to whoever's left standing between Dawson and Pascal. It may have to come down to Dawson-Johnson III, or else who is Dawson going to have to dance with? Hopkins has been coyly lingering by the punch bowl. Cloud and Pascal will both be fresh off losses. The European champions have nothing to lose and nothing to prove, so they're dancing with themselves (oh-oh, dancing with themselves). What else would there be? :conf

Brickhaus has it right. The Dawson/Pascal fight features the top two fighters in the division, IMO, and thus the winner is champ.

Cloud/Johnson then determines the No. 1 contender and the WBO circuit is monitored as well. Hopkins and Erdei are not worthy of any consideration whatsoever.

Dawson obviously needs to beat Pascal, but he needs Cloud to win, too. If Chad and Johnson both win, that will essentially force Dawson to move down in weight and fight Bute or Pavlik at a catchweight.

    Or, God forbid, Jermain Taylor.
