Tribute to the terrific Lloyd Honeyghan, who didnt just beat Donald Curry you know. Heres the Curry fight, the three defences following that great win, the Vaca rematch, and his eventual downfall against Marlon Starling. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1GW...DF9AE081&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=77 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8jNXMOJTiVY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz2uuo7r-7k&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWSvKRMZ1d4&feature=related http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NhNEFs1ICio http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MYqlHZ4o8dw Enjoy.
I uploaded the Vaca rematch :good Very good fighter who's career is overshadowed by the Curry fight - but lets be honest, that fight is the one you would pick to overshadow your career!
Nice one for uploading the Vaca fight. :good I was just watching them all again, its funny how he changed his style from boxer to brawler. I wonder why he did that? Still, it made his fights very entertaining.
Honeyghan says Cliff Gilpin, who dropped him in a cracking 12-rounder for the vacant British welterweight title at the Albert Hall in 1983, gave him his toughest ever fight. Lloyd came through a war on points but won handily when they met again a few months later, also on points. I think bad hands affected Honeyghan's later career and turned him into a man who wanted to win quickly, often too quickly.
I always find it funny how fighters say someone they beat was their toughest fight ever, its like they cant give any credit to the guys that beat them. I'll have to check out Gilpin, tbh I know next to nothing about him. Bad hands may very well be the reason he tried to get things over and done with, sometimes it worked in spectacular fashion but in later fights against top opponents he couldnt seem to quite manage it.
honeyghan is very underrated i remember watching him on tv beat mittee ang going to the blocker fight honeyghan was knackered at the end of that fight and turned pressure brawler type fighter for that fight but i remember thinking how tall and how long blockers arms were.i also saw the vaca fights the last honeyghan fight i went to was a very sad exspierience it was the breland fight honeyghans legs were jelly before the fight started
Yeah his win over Blocker gets forgotten but it was a very good one. Blocker was clearly the bigger of the two and had the reach advantage but Honeyghan got on the inside well and punished him there. I havent seen the Breland fight but I think thats probably a good thing, just try and remember the good times.
My favourite Honeyghan story. He wanted to buy the Venue nightclub in New Cross and rename it Honeyghans'.....how old school! Also banged Vanessa Feltz apparently. Kind of takes the gloss off the Curry win doesn't it!
:rofl:rofl:rofl That Feltz story must be bull**** surely. Thats just plain wrong. Why would he even go there?
