Daniel Jacobs was a razor close victory with many people believing that Canelo lost the fight. Jacobs fought through a crippling rehydration clause. Then Canelo fought an old and shot Kovalev who was almost knocked out by Yarde, was 2-3 punches from retirement, had only 3 weeks of rest before starting camp, missed weight, forgot (or purposely didn't throw) how to throw a power punch, and was killed off by a crippling rehydration clause.
In Canelo's defense he is the ONLY fighter in boxing that's taking chances and stepping out of his comfort zone a little. Crawford wants to fights all those PBC boys and Porter seems game but the entire roster in boxing is scared to lose and happy with crumbs off of another man's table. I have really been getting back into pro wrestling and more MMA lately because boxng is as predictable now as the WWE. Canelo picking and choosing is the best boxing has to offer lately along with Youtube boxing matches with more action than May/Pac. Waiting for 2 mid card UFC fighters to complete their fight while the superstar of boxing sits around like a punk. Its not Canelo's fault, boxing is a weak ***** right now.
There is really no defending Canelo. He's a proven drug cheat and relies on weight shenanigans to win his matches. If you want to talk risk taking, just look at Manny Pacquiao. Dude should have never been in the ring with Thurman.
The crippling rehydration that he failed? Jacobs completely ignored it, he come in at 173.6 lbs, well over the 10 lb limit. The same 10 lb limit that he had no problem making for Derevyanchenko just 6 months earlier. You can't say it was crippling when he didn't even try to come close to making it. Almost everyone agreed that Canelo beat Jacobs comfortably, way more convincingly than GGG did. Jacobs was well behind at the half way point. To call that a razor close victory is a huge exaggeration. The final scores of 116-112, 115-113 x2 were because 2 judges had Jacobs winning 3 of the final 4 rounds to make it 115-113. Jacobs rallied and may have edged a couple of those late rounds, but the rounds that Canelo won were convincingly unlike the rounds Jacobs won which were essentially toss-ups. According to Compubox, Canelo had a 188-131 landed punches advantage. 58 out of those 188 were body shots. In the last 2 rounds, according to compubox, Canelo landed 7 more punches in round 11 than Jacobs and 9 more punches in round 12. These were rounds that 2 judges gave Jacobs to make it 115-113. So anotherwords Jacobs was given rounds by the judges that he was clearly outlanded in just to make it close. Through 8 rounds, Jacobs had only won 2 rounds. He was losing 78-74 going into the final 4 rounds. It was a one sided match at the mid-way point, Jacobs came back in the 2nd half to make it respectable but it was far, far from a razor close victory.
Putting that aside for a moment, can you explain how the rehydration could have been crippling if he didn't even attempt to make it?
Really? Usyk collected all the belts in the cruiserweight division while taking risks - he beat all the champions in their backyard. Now he has moved to the HW division which is full of huge punchers instead of staying at cruiserweight and defending his belts Mickey Garcia fought much bigger and stronger Errol Spence, who, unlike shot Kovalev, was in his prime, Lomachenko is fighting way over his natural weight, Inoue is willing to fight anybody... And how Beterbiev vs Gvozdyk or Taylor vs Prograis unification fights were less risky affairs for the boxers than Canelo vs Jacobs?
In 2019, Canelo stepped out of his comfort zone by fighting on an away show, with away judges, knowing he needed a KO to win. He then stepped out of his comfort zone with designer PEDs nobody else can afford or politically cover up. As if that wasn't enough, he stepped out of his comfort zone again by designing weight clauses that were tailor made for his own substance assistance weight cut but that would hamper the opponent. He also felt very uncomfortable fighting older opponents so that he had to endure the advantage of youth. The comfort zones this man smashes are legendary.
Poor Canelo. Imagine going to Las Vegas knowing there is literally no chance of beating him on points in any circumstances. Imagine facing cards like Mayweather (114-114) and Triple G (118-110) which literally nobody else on the planet can defend or justify. Canelo is good fighter and I hate myself for saying this a little but I can't wait for his comeuppance. (sorry only just noticed your post was sarcastic lol)
Can't believe i'm defending Ginger nuts who i dislike. But he handled Jacobs better than GGG and he showed alot of skill and ringcraft to beat a much bigger man (yes well past it) in Kov. Yes he is/has been on the peds and has most definitely been a catchweight /rehydration queen. But he does go for risky and interesting fights. Compare him with p4p rival Crawford who hasn't taken a risk in years. Good year for Ginger.
Talk about being bias. And I guess Jacobs was also crippled vs Derevyanchenko, since the IBF also had the same 10lb rehydration mandate. And yes, Kovalev was past his prime. He showed every bit of his age. But what you missed is the part where Kovalev fought Canelo the same way he fought Yarde and Eleider in the rematch. And how was Kovalev almost knocked out? He wasn´t even knocked down by Yarde.
Poor Canelo, they even busted him for PEDS once. But it's ok now since they made clenbuterol legal for him. His comfort was disrupted, but now he is back into his comfort zone. He also easily defeated Gennady Golovkin not once, but twice by going 12 rounds with him and blocking all his punches with his face.
