round 4,5 bhop:huh what fight was you watching? round 6 bhop had one solid punch and clzaghe i counted had 4 scoring punches for me calzaghe round too i had it 115-112 to calzaghe like the judge at ringside had it
Hmmm... Quite a few Yanks saying this.:think I reckon they picture a 2003 Hopkins and a 2008 Calzaghe. This is most likely because general boxing fans stateside watched all B-Hops fights in this period and didn't pay any attention to Calzaghe at all. What you have to take into account is a 2003 31 year old Calzaghe, which was a time where he had more power and was even more relentless. So when people say "Well, if B-Hop was a bit younger he'd have beaten that Calzaghe". They also need to take into account he would have faced a younger, more powerful Calzaghe. Probably coming off the Byron Mitchell fight (look it up).
Good score-card. I also had it 115-113 Cal, although my rounds and EVEN round was slightly different to yours. No arguments from me, though. :good
This fight shows a prime TWO handed bhop would of kicked his ****ing ass. He had more options. Bhop created openings that he could not land now with his age settling in the later rounds that he could of earlier. He put himself in position to land some great left hooks that he used to have in his arsenal. Bhop has been a one handed fighter looking for the same punch for the last 4 years.........even that one handed fighter was competitive with Calzaghe that said he felt stronger and more powerful at the 175 weight. I guess he was talking bull****.
Hopkins got dropped by Mercado, twice and Hopkins did not get up and knock Mercado out in the same round that he got dropped, like Calzaghe did to Mitchell did he. :smoke
8-4 Calzaghe factor in the kd and you get 115-112 for JC. Hard to win the fight when you rely on a one and grab technique. Calzhaghe won because he was busier. Hopkins is old physically in a boxing capacity. He just can't get up the workrate to win fights and last night was good for him. What Old Man Hopkins is doing is getting by with guile. The guy is a boxing genius. He is still a top shelf fighter, largely because of his smarts. Good win for JC. He'll probably fight Jones next and I'm ok with that. Hopkins can still compete at the top level and I'd like to see him truck on for a few more fights.
