If Mayweather were smart, he'd own the villain role and make this fight the biggest PPV fight in history. Him wanting fans to like him is not going to happen. You don't come out in a recession and nickname yourself 'money' and expect people to love you. It's like going to Africa and naming yourself Floyd 'Aids Free' Mayweather. He needs to stop looking for support from fans and start insulting them and riling them up. He ruins his real earning potential by being a huge ass hole every time he is confronted and then complaining when people don't respect him. The problem with the complaining is, he legitimately feels like he is under appreciated, and should be Michael Jordan or something. He has been in pro wrestling, he should know how it works. Come out, tell the people everything they don't want to hear, and then make them pay to watch you get beat up.... and if he wins, even better, because then we will REALLY want to see him get his ass kicked. He could be the Ric Flair of boxing if he knew what he was doing.

The difference is that people know Ric Flair or randy Savage were playing roles. Wrestling is scripted, like a movie. When people hate wrestlers, they hate the character. When a boxer says stuff, it's him saying stuff. It would mean that he's an actual ******* in real life. No one wants to be known as an *******...even assholes like Floyd don't want to be perceived as assholes. I think he's already maximized his assholeness, further assholic actions will just make him go from regular ******* to super *******, and the marginal rate of return on being a super ******* is just not worth the extra effort in assholitry.

I think the character and antics of Muhammad Ali are a brilliant representation of what I mean.

i couldn't believe my eyes when he changed his name to Money Mayweather and then showing all those dollar bills, when a lot of people were losing their jobs and homes...
it was cringeworthy to say the least

but hell, it's his life, he can do what he wants but don't start whining if you're not getting any respect
