Ok guys....lots of talk of GGG THIS.... GGG THAT....let's break it down and me honest with our answers...does GGG has earn a chance to fight Cotto regardless of mandatory....or alphabets titles....

The fact is , he has no elite on his soft resume, no doubt he has talent and skills...but skills can be accentuated by the quality of your opposition... And for me the quality of opponents is just not there....Cotto to strong, to smart ...to elite for GGG AT THIS POINT ON THEIR RESPECTIVE CARRIERS...

Please remember Cotto has a tendency to really disfigured and hurt his opponent, and the Cotto-Roach combo seems like a deadly one...

His resume isn't great but other than Martinez none of the middleweights have a great resume.

Quillin and GGG resumes are roughly equal.

Geale and Soliman have good wins against Sturm but not much else world class wins.

Middleweight just isn't that great a division.

Did Cotto have the resume at MW to deserve a fight with Martinez? GGG is for a reason considered the best 160 pounder. Even though he is having trouble finding top 10s to fight, he is still obliterating everybody he comes in contact with.

In today's boxing world, deserving a fight has nothing to do with actually landing a fight. If GGG can bring sufficient money to the table to justify the risk of fighting him, then this fight will happen.

Sadly not, which is why he will be the last option to consider.

    Did Rodriguez?

    Did Trout?

What you're saying is "an elite fighter is allowed to duck GGG because GGG hasn't fought an elite fighter". By this logic, he hasn't even earned the right to test himself against the best of the best, so it's OK if they never give him that opportunity.

We all know that's hogwash. Perhaps people are afraid that maybe, just maybe, he's actually as good as advertised and, once those fights happen, there's no playing the "he hasn't fought anyone" card anymore.

what BS logic, so who had Austin Trout beaten to be allowed to set foot in the same ring as the legendary Cotto? or the formidable Delvin Rodriguez?

Pathetic comparisons there. Cotto was coming off a loss against Mayweather when he fought Trout and was coming off a loss against Trout when he met Rodriguez. His position now is nothing like those two you mentioned which makes the situation completely different.

The loss against Mayweather was competitive enough to raise his stock, which is a big reason why Trout was a 3-1 underdog in that fight. Perhaps you'd prefer title defense examples like the great Alfonso Gomez or a shot Mayorga, then.

Even if you don't like any of the examples, it's still bogus logic to say it's O.K. if this champ doesn't give GGG a chance because the last champ didn't, either. What had Cotto done to earn a middleweight championship shot against Martinez?

What had Martinez done at 160 to merit a shot against Pavlik?

It's B.S. logic any champion can use to avoid a challenger they don't want to face, and it's a travesty that deserving contenders have to wait on the sideline because they're too much of a threat for their own good. But hey, that's boxing for you.

If the NFL were like that, the Broncos would've simply told Seattle to go F themselves while they kicked the **** out of Notre Dame that Super Bowl Sunday instead.

Unifying titles is a great thing (especially when the fight is between the top 2 fighters in the division).

When Martinez was champ, most fans were calling for Martinez vs GGG in a massive unification fight. Now that Cotto is the champ, GGG is not worthy of sharing a ring with him? I don't understand this logic.

I'm a Cotto fan AND I wouldn't blame Cotto for not fighting GGG, but theres no one out there more deserving than GGG. Hes the hype machine thats proven it to a certain degree. Hes comparable to Matthysse prior to his title shot. Would you argue that Mattysse didn't deserve his shot? No way.

    The obvious answer is no.
As you pointed out, GGG has no A level elites on his resume. However, today boxing is about business versus quality. So, if an amateur like Loma can get an undeserved title fight in his 2nd Pro fight then just about anyone can get a title fight, anytime.

    The real question is;

Does Cotto actually plan to continue campaigning a MW and defend his MW title?
If so, then I think he would want to make as much possible doing it and would probably go to an opponent with the best bucks like Sturm in Germany instead of GGG.
