Ive got it from a "usually" reliable source that Mikkel Kessler has backed out of his planned meet with Edison Miranda because he's got the oppurtunity and is signing for a fight for Danny Green's vacated WBA 175lbs belt against Hugo Garay.

The reason for this being not only does it give him a title back (I dont know much about Garay so im just assuming) but Roy Jones JR then becomes the mandatory for the wba champion as he's #4 now setting up a big money showdown.

I can see what Kessler's handlers are thinking. Edison Miranda, or a title and then a huge payday against a legend.

Not a bad move, actually. I'd prefer Kessler stay at 168 and try to create a legacy there. But even at 175, I would pick him over everybody with the exception of Calzaghe.

Agreed, athlough the LHW is certainly hotting up, it seems like the LHW's with the exception of Erdei actually wanna fight eachother.

Which is more that can be said for a certain "top division in boxing"

Also who is to say that he isn't moving up to 175 in the hopes of rematching Calzaghe? Personally I don't see him beating Calzaghe unless Calzaghe begins to decline further (he is getting old after all), but its obvious Kessler wasn't very pleased with his performance against Calzaghe!

    Erdei, Erdei, Erdei:-( :-( :-(

:good The light heavyweight division has some good fighters. Getting the big fights made would spark interest.

I'd favor Roy over Beyer, no question. Taylor, Woods, and Tarver would probably be too much right now. Although Tarver might be shot as well.

Interesting. Hard to resist the lure of a belt, I guess, but Kessler would have the 168 belts soon enough if he stayed there. I'd give him more credit for beating Miranda than for Garay.

175 is the new 168 now imo. The big guns and superstars/future superstars are there now, and many mouth watering match ups can be made between the likes of Dawson, Calzaghe, Kessler, Hopkins, and perhaps theres room in there for Woods too, although I wouldn't like his chances. Roy Jones would create some buzz there as well.

Let the guys at 168 apply their trade and may the ruler of there move up later on and try and get into the mix as well. :good

That seems to make sense. If Calzaghe says he's always struggled at 168 then Kessler must find it even tougher cos he looked huge against Calz. The only other fight approaching mega-fight proportions at 168 would be if Pavlik moved up but there's uncertainty about that and what the Lockett (from the Calzaghe gym) fight actually means in terms of a future match wih Calzaghe. I keep hearing that if Woods beats Tarver then Woods-Calzaghe has been shook on for the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff in July. Calzaghe would fancy that as he'd be fighting for one of the 4 recognised belts to go with the Ring belt he'll pick off Bernie. Apparently Woods-Calzaghe was supposed to be happening now as there was a belief that BHop-Calz would never get done

As hard as it is to believe, I've heard that Kessler doesn't have problems making 168.

He's going up in weight simply for the title shot, which really heats up the 175 division.

I think that fight could be close mate. I'm not 100% sold that Dawson would win. Before the Calzaghe fight, I thought Dawson would be the only one that could beat Kessler at distance, but Calzaghe proved me wrong.

Kessler impressed me on the inside against Calzaghe. I'd probably go with Dawson if this fight was made.

Kessler is far too one dimensional to deal with a fighter with the talent of Chad Dawson. Dawson is probably the most under rated fighter in boxing right now IMO. I haven't seen a guy move that naturally in the ring since Roy and Floyd.... Well probably Gamboa actually, but in different ways.

Dawson doubles and triples hooks, throws from all angles, is very fast, good power, and a nice long reach.

The european style of Kess would be very easily dismantled by the superior technique and talent of Dawson no question IMO.

This would be a boxing masterclass. Wide UD Chad Dawson, much like the Adamek fight.

Not taking anything away from Kes either. Dawson is just THAT good.
