I was very impressed with Dawson against Adamek. Unfortunately I haven't seen any more of him. From what I've seen, and taking into consideration that he'll gain ring maturity, ect, I see him being top 3 p4p later on.
Great fighter IMO, although i am calling it pretty early. Especially considering what has happened with Diaz and WIlliams in the past few months. Check this clip, his last fight. First bit is a bit slow, but wait until he opens up. [YT]zij2nL2pMWY[/YT]
Calzaghe (35), Hopkins (43), Woods(35), Jones(39), Johnson(39) and Tarver(39) - hardly the future division :smoke But there is a few decent fights to be made - but I'd say the SMW got more potetional.
I reckon that Kessler should have stayed at 168lbs, plenty of time to move up he is still young. Although i guess he has been unified champ at M/W and fighting Roy Jones Jnr, The winner of Dawson/Johnson/Tarver/Woods are bigger than any fights at Super Mid.
Dawson is talented - but he chin is very shaky ... the uppercuts that Kessler got Calzaghe with would knock out Dawson... But a very interesting fight indeed
Calzaghe isn't struggling to make weight - if so I find it very strange that he weighed in at 166½ for the Kessler fight. According to Kessler he isn't strugling to make weight - but he did have a bodyfat% of 5% last time and had to drop his undies to "lose" the last bit. So if he gains just a little more musle it's going to be very very hard to stay at 168.
You left out Dawson though, clearly the best prospect and title holder in the division. Not to mention Diaconu and Erdei... Also in the higher weight classes fighters usually have increased longevity. With Kessler at SMW, there are far better matches to be made. All there is at SMW really is Bute and Mundine. Mundine on the decline and fighting bums.
I'd bet the house on Kessler beating Dawson. In fact, I think Glen Johnson is gonna beat him to it. There's no reason to hype Dawson up at this point because all he's shown me against C-level competition is that he's got a leaky defence and shaky chin. IMO Dawson is the most overated fighter on these forums. *EDIT* Sorry, second most overated behind Kelly Pavlik. If he beats the Road warrior. Then I'll start taking notice. As for now dont mention Dawson with the other big boys at LHW because he simply isnt there with them.
Maybe, but Dawson isn't as careless as Calzaghe was in that fight. He'd be less likely to get hit by them, and I wouldn't put the house on them KO'ing him. He may get knocked down though.
atsch I was actually wondering why this idiocy seemed so familiar... Then i saw those words...Formerly yesihavearm Enough said Just a tip mate... I wouldn't be boasting about that if i were you:good
Calzaghe did weigh in at 166 1/2, but has on occasion had to hit thr treadmill prior to a weigh in to make exactly sure. Also, he maybe feels that his power has diminished at 168 and needs the extra seven pounds to feel stronger - he never looked like stopping Kessler if truth be told, OK he KO'd Manfredo (big deal), and he could have put Lacy away at any time but felt compelled to impose maximum punishment! I haven't seen enough of Dawson to comment - is he a Lennox or a Lacy? (Stolen from the Leeds United Bremner or Brolin phone in!)
Have a look at the clip i posted. Go on youtube and watch him vs adamek. The guy is a superb fighter. Big trouble for either Kess or Calzaghe. A very technical fighter, not a brawler like lacy.
