Joe is talented just not elite. It is his lack of genuine power and superb athleticism that separates him from the greatest fighters .. he has thrived with half-ass feints because he has plied his trade against a bunch of stiff Euros who couldn't jive or juke in the ring to save their lives .. he had nothing for Hopkins and would have nothing for Toney, Jones, Dawson, Johnson, or George because nothing he brings hasn't been seen a million times before by US fighters. Joe looks elite by comparison to the limited Euros he has faced for a long career .. Tarver is longer and would give Calzaghe fits before winning a decision (though he looked like crap fighting the incredibly limited Clinton Woods) but I wouldn't rule out a Calzaghe decision because AT is very old himself. Johnson would lay Joe out cold. Dawson would kill Joe. George .. same thing. Too young, at 29, hits too hard as an ex-cruiser .. he would punish Calzaghe and end his career if they met. There are very clear reasons why Hopkins fought Joe and not Dawson or a George type(though that wasn't even contemplatible as George just came down from cruiser). You're wrong if you think a 29-year old George couldn't chase down and hurt the 35-year old Calzaghe ...

Just for some of the ******s on here it's quite simple.

Joe is NOT afraid of Pavlik, not a chance in hell is he. Joe Calzaghe will fight whoever brings the most $ to the table out of Jones or Pavlik it's really that simple.

I really hope the Jones fight doesn't come off so we can see Calzaghe give a boxing lesson to shut up these Pavlik fans once and for all.

Shame because Pavlik is a very likeable guy and a good boxer but you'd swear he could KO King Kong the way some people talk.

That isn't any different with Joe C or any other boxer. Every single fighter has it's idiot fans who make stupid proclimations. Best thing to do is ignore them, not acknowldge them.

And the real reason Joe would take Jones instead is it's an easier fight for more money. It's as simple as that.

Calzaghe has fought 22 fights since he beat Eubank and I only count 7 Europeans amongst his opponents (if we include Ashira as European).

You don't really know anything about him at all do you? You were probably one of the people before the Hopkins fight posting that Calzaghe had 'never fought outside Wales'

What the boxrec.com defense? Shipping in bums or semi-bums whether from outside Europe or America to face predisposed refs and judges in the Cardiff Ice Rink don't mean **** about establishing legitimacy or demonstrating huge balls does it? Why don't you calculate where the predonderance of fights occurred for the majority of those twenty-two fighters and you'll find they were either Europeans or foreigners who plied their trade basically in Europe. Same thing man .. you are what you fight ...

Why not, I've got five mins to spare whilst watching the golf.

So. we've got seven Europeans on the list, who did fight the majority of their fights in Europe.

Then we've got 14 non-Europeans. Out of those the number who 'plied their trade basically in Europe' is.......one. Mkrtchian.

10 had fought mainly or solely in the US (Sheika, McIntyre, Brewer, Jimenez, Pudwill, Mitchell, Salem, Lacy, Manfredo, Hopkins). 2 fought mainly or solely in Australia (Thornberry, Bika) and one mainly in South America (Ferreyra)

So I guess we can conclude you were completely wrong. How inconvenient when facts don't match your prejudices...

Why do you guys insist on ignoring the fact that Joe spent 7 months calling Pavlik out every chance he got. From Pavlik/Taylor I until after the Hopkins fight Joe repeatedly said he wanted Pavlik. Three relevant fights happened in the interim. Paclik/Tayor II, Joe/BHop, and Pavlik/Lockett. Now all Joe can do make bull**** excuses. you want proof? Here it is. (Pay close attention to what Joe said at around the 6:53 mark.)

Isn't that how Calzaghe spent most of his career? Making nice paydays fighting against whoever the WBO mandated as #1?

That's all you got? McIntyre was a bum who had to travel to Denmark to fight Joe (for his only fight outside Louisiana or Mississippi). Tocker Pudwill is another bum who fought all his fights in those boxing meccas of Montana and North Dakota. Jimenez was a bum who had all of twenty-one career fights and he had to travel to the UK to fight Calzaghe and Magee and lose two twelve-round decisions in his last two fights before retiring. Manfredo is a bum. Note the common thread? Joe likes to fight bums .. it has been safer that way .. he's fought 45 times and has barely a half-dozen fights where the opponent had a pulse ..

LMAO PAVLIK VS LOCKETT was relevant ??

And he said that he could fight the winner of Taylor Pavlik its a possibility you act like he said I will defiently fight the winner ..This is nothing new for boxers to do ..Pavlik fans need to fall back ..Joe has earned his right to end his career how he wants to all Pavlik has done is earn his 1st title ..Joe's been boxing for 25yrs why doesn't he deserve the benifit of the doubt its Pavlik who needs to continue to improve not the other way around ..
