When I look at some of the list - most people have 1-4 the same. 5-10 are usually different. I have mines in order for these reasons:

Margarito beat Cintron and Clottey - so he should be ranked above both. Cintron only lost to Margarito - when Clottey lost to him and Baldomir. The Baldomir lost keeps him behind Cintron - but ahead of Judah, since Clottey lost on a DQ, while winning the fight. Collazo lost to Shane and most thought he beat Ricky - and with Berto still stepping up his competition - he'll come in last, if he's ranked in some top 10 at all.

I agrre with your list except you have Margarito and Clottey backwards.

It doesn't matter about coulda/shoulda/woulda, one beat the other recently and that's that.

Aside from that, your list is spot-on.

    Did you see their fight???:patsch

Clottey sprains a finger and suddenly people say he has a broken hand. Margarito with a sprained wrist and anckle almost put his lights out in the fight, no way Clottey wins a rematch against a 100% Margo.

Now for the real rankings at Welter:

    C) Mayweather
    1) Cotto
    2) Williams
    3) Mosley
    4) Margarito
    ...

I understand that Clottey was outboxing Margarito before he injured his hand but the end result still shows in favor of the latter. Therefore how can you have Clottey ahead of Margarito?

Other than that, your list is quite acceptable.

This is a fairly decent list, but there is one thing I have to disagree with.

While I would historically rank Miguel Cotto's victory over Shane Mosley as more important than Paul Williams' victory over Antonio Margarito, the Williams victory means more in terms of rankings in the welterweight division. Margarito was the longest running titleist and holder of the only belt that was not unified by former undisputed champion Corey Spinks. Spinks' championship was stripped away by Zab Judah, but Judah lost the belts to Baldomir - at which point the championship splintered once more with each of the alphabet belts going their own way.

The WBA portion of the belt eventually made it's way into the hands of Miguel Cotto - yet all the while, Antonio Margarito held onto his WBO title as part of a championship reign that predated Corey Spinks' reign at the top by almost two years.

Logically, Margarito should have been the number one contender to the undisputed title at some point - yet politics kept that from ever happening. Margarito's ranking in the division should have been considered higher than Cotto who is still fairly new to the division by comparison. Margarito was unbeaten at welterweight for almost ten years before his loss to Williams. His title reign consisted of victories over several of the toughest fighters in the division including Antonio Diaz, Andrew Lewis, Kermit Cintron, and Joshua Clottey. This respectable opposition marks him as not merely one of the top contenders in the division, but a candidate for top fighter in the division.

Paul Williams defeated Margarito in convincing fashion and by all rights claims his lofty ranking near the top of the welterweight division.

Paul Williams should be ranked number two - with Miguel Cotto behind him at number three. A fight between the two seems natural to determine the true number one contender.
