"If I was at a weight categorywhere I could fight the likes of Ricky Hatton, Manny Pacquiao or Floyd Mayweather, then it would be a different story, they are fighters to carry on for," Calzaghe added.
"I could be in proper fighting shape in a matter of weeks. But what for? The money? Rocky Marciano’s record?
"Of course I could’ve done it, I could have fought three bums this year and been done with it, retired a bit richer and having beaten the record. But what would it honestly mean?
"Chad Dawson? Hopkins rematch? I just don’t see the point.

    He's got a point.

I would say the hardest match-up out there for him would be Dawson, but its very a much a high-risk/low reward bout.

Glen Johnson might give him trouble, but again would he get any praise for winning that one either?

Always a Hopkins rematch...but I believe he cleared things up pretty well in the first fight. He's nowhere near as skilled as Hopkins, but will probably always outwork him for a decision. And he won't get any praise for beating an even older Hopkins.

NB: I know that not everyone agrees with me on the first Hopkins fight as a win for Joe. But to hell with it, thats my opinion.

Calzaghe impresses me more and more when he speaks these days. He's one of the few boxers who consistantly speaks the truth if one can look past the promotion material for his own fights.

However, I get the impression that he's waiting for a big big offer to come out of retirement. If he agreed to that offer I will personally go to his Abercarn gym and shake the stupid **** to the core.

He can't see the value of a Hopkins rematch?

"You can tell he's hit 37 and he just can't be arsed with it anymore."

Right on the money. I also think, for some strange reason, he thinks this could help his family life - in that boxing wont interfere or anything like that.

I hope he stays retired, and I feel cynical for feeling it but, I wish he had taken on Chad Dawson and Pavlik just to silence a few more critics up. Nonetheless, it is a incredible accomplishment that is also extremely unique.

That fight did **** numbers. He feels he won the fight. He would be taking a rematch a year later for not that much money. For what exactly? He feels he won, his record says he won.

He is 37 years old. He has been fighting a long time, his hands break every fight. He could beat most anyone right now at 175, but for what? Like he says, how long does he keep doing this for? The people that hate him are never going to give him credit for any victory. When is it good enough?

He has health, he retires on top. Good for him

    No, can you?

A clearer win for Joe and it wont be percieved as anying positive. It will be because Hop is a year older, and pav was his last big hurrah.

A close win leaves him in the exact posistion he is in now, except this time a 44 yr old took him to the wire.

A defeat and he was only ever a euro joke and hop got the right decision this time.

not too many people really want another B-hop matchup anyhow, B-hop makes ugly fights and are-match wouldn't bring in enough ppv's to make it worth while.

It's pretty clear that Calzague is lacking "the hunger", the motivation to fight the opponents who are available to him right now.

Add to that the fact that Joe believes he deserves to be paid 10 million everytime he steps into the ring.

  12. Thats not true most of his critics give him props for beating Kessler.... I think a win vs Dawson would have proved alot..... alot more than a shot RJJ

A lot of fights would have proved a lot more than the RJJ fight.

He did it for money, to fight at MSG and fight Roy. He was quite clear on that.
