Is because they have led mediocre lives and haven't achieved much. When these people see someone like PBF or Ali, they feel inferior and need to compensate for those negative feelings by "finding the fighter's flaw."

"Oh Ali? He was over-rated. Look at all those losses..." etc etc etc

Roy Jones Jr; Floyd Jr; Ali; Calzaghe and other fighters are really good. You have to be really good at boxing just to win a title. When you see a good fighter not getting any respect or being picked apart, this is why it happens.

Just fans who don't believe in themselves want to feel better about not doing anything with their lives.

...either that or simply because they want to insist that even though these ATGs are better, they are not out-of-this-world/ supernatural, and shouldn't be made to appear perfect/flawless - i.e. shouldn't be idealised.

I agree with everything you said except the part about PBF. A lot
of fans put down Floyd because like Judah he behaves like a street
thug and is consistently a narcissistic jerk. It's just natural to root
against a guy who is so in love with himself he needs to remind the
world how great he is every 20 minutes.

Lets be serious for a moment. Lets be clear headed, forget about Ali's out of ring fame. Forget the hype. He was a great, great boxer but not quite in Joe Calzaghe league. I'm not insulting Ali. He was brilliant. But Calzaghe is something special, a thrice in a generation athlete (Calzaghe, Federer, Phil Taylor.)

Calzaghe wouldn't lose to a Fraizer, or even struggle. If Ali were as talented as Calzaghe he would have dominated Fraizer even after a lay-off.

Muhammad Ali's greatness is in another league than Calzaghe's.

But then we can't employ terms like "atg" or "goat". Plus tell me then; who currently beats a prime SRR, Duran, or Hagler??
