Vitali will be remembered as a a good champion. We should all be so lucky. Not everyone has to be fit into the top ten. I love David Tua and Shannon Briggs. That doesn't mean I have to find someway to exaggerate their accomplishments. Vitali was a big strong man, good chin, dominant in his era post Lewis and a good guy out of the ring. It's a better legacy than most.
Tell that to Langford, Jeanette, Mcvey during his title reign. Drew the color line against his own people while crying about having the same thing done to him, legend. I dont see how Vitali could be top 10 either his accomplishments dont come close to deserving it but some of the rose tinted logic on the guys you named is funny like only listing Louis as being past prime for Marciano
I like Vits, he was a fighter and a credit outside the ring as well. But his nuthuggers are ridiculous and spout absurd claims without knowing the history and WHY he can't be top 10 as they like to falsely claim. My list is no where near perfect, but it gives these reasons and I'd be willing to argue them with any reasonable poster. I have another thread about the top 12 h2h heavyweights in history. I know the nuthuggers want to just call me a hater, but how can that ne possible when he's in my top 10 on that list. His career simplt doesn't warrant a top 10 spot amongst the ATG'S. That is no slight against him, just sound and logical reasoning.
Believe me, Im the first to critisize Johnson for drawing the color line as champion, especially against Langford which was a viable fight in both France and Australia if Im not mistaken. But it doesn't change the fact he already beat almost all the best black fighters before winning the title. As far as Louis goes against Marciano.....All one has to do is look at film of him in his prime and compare it to the slow watered down verson we got against Marciano to know he was clearly past his best. I don't even see how that can be arguable.
And you won't besides the nuthuggers here and on other forums. No reasonable or knowledgable person about boxing history would place him that high. I have a sneaking suspicion even the nuthuggers won't touch this thread because when you really look at it even they have to admit its ridiculous. Im just trying to open some of their eyes.
There has been and still are a long list of posters who have blindly made this claim. Lets see if any are willing to get down and dirty and discuss actual facts about history. Me thinks they won't though.
Big vitali fan but I agree his weak(relatively) resume keeps him out of the top ten, and also agree that he is however a top ten hth hw His younger brother on the other hand Imo is pretty much a lock for top ten, though of course we have to wait until he retires before rating his career
I have Wlad at 16 right now and expect him to move close to if not inside the top 10 by the time he retires. This will be contingent on not losing again of course. His losses against Sanders and Brewster set him back against what could have already been a top 10 all time career.
lol You really misunderstood me. What i said is its funny that Louis was the only one you pointed that out about, they were all past prime. Ezzard was the youngest i beleve at 33 but was nowhere near his peak either. They were all shells and Marciano was still losing against Walcott for example.
My mistake. Certainly none were at their peak, but I might argue Walcott had been doing the best fighting of his career his last few years much like Wlad now, but not as dominant. All were still very capable and top fighters though. In the end though I agree with you.
