Great for degale winning the gold but that final was a disgrace the oppenent was like a wilder version of mayorga x5 and degale should have won by alot more. I mean if that fight alone was the 1st bit of olympic boxing coverage you or anyone saw you would think youv'e turned on the UFC network.

The main difference is that Khan was the only UK boxer at the last Olympics. He was holding the hopes of a nation in one sport.

We took 8 boxers this time and the expectation was that we would get a couple of medals. That happened and so nobody was too surprised even though DeGale and Price were probably not the ones people expected to bringing metal home.

Its a tough break on the two lads as they are good enough to turn pro and an Olympic medal should guarantee a big enough purse on the contract to secure them both financially. But it could be a blessing as expectation on both may be slightly lower and therefore we could allow them to develop without expecting a world title to naturally follow.

As for the future of both, I think they both have enough about them to secure a British title, after that the ball is in their court depending on how they develop.

    hello

the other thing i forgot to mention is that amir khan dominated his opponents until he fought kindelan. he was too fast, outscored or stopped his opponents.

I'm not sure that Khan being Asian was the overriding factor in the hype he generated during the 2004 Olympics - IMO it was the fact that he was so young @17. For some reason the BBC have a hard-on for young British Athletes, look at Tom Daly (10m Diving) @14 he was having stupid amount of coverage and coming in last. While the boxers were having hardly any coverage (even when they were in the medal winning rounds)

there is a possibility it was becos of his age, but there were othrer big factors too. you cant say it was just one thing. unltimately it was meant to be.

with amir being asian it created alot of hype cos how often do we see a asian boxer fight on tv? rarely. and here we had a brilliant boxer who is asian. thats whayt i meant when i said degale was just another white guy boxer, you always see em, nothing different. nothing for an average guy to pay enough attention.

however i do think degale is somat special, i heard about his rep b4 the olympics and new he would give anyone a match. i saw him fight once too.

its a little premature to start commenting on degale's [lack of] hype. It's been one week. I know for sure that Khan wasn't saying jack **** after a week.

You've only got to look at some of the threads to see the deal with Kahn. We in Britain love an underdog, he was our only representitive in Athenes and bein 17 and fighting a Cuba legend in the final, we all got behind him. He had a humble attitued and a will to be the best. That was a start of the Kahn hype machine
Now he thinks hes the greatest thing since Jesus, attitudes towards him have changed, cause we Brits hate a big head, and a winner.
Lets just hope Degale keeps a relatively level head, puts in some good pro perfomances, then the UK will hopefully support him in the future

It not just about ASIAN. I tell you why James didn't get enough hype:

    * Khan was youngest boxer at the age of 17
    * He was only British boxer at the Olympic 2004
    * A lot of Asian community got excited and also none Asian community.
    * Cuban Mario was tough, everyone know about it.

    I agree there
And somebody mentioned earlier that our medal haul compare to Athenes meant Degale might have got lost in the fog compared to the spotlight on Amir

Khan got all the hype because...(a) he was the only boxer representing us...(b) because of his age,Degale will surely sign a big/huge contract, should he decide to turn over, plus,i will have to turn the brightness up on my tv because Degale looks mixed race to me,which i might add, should not make any difference whatsoever.
