I have asthma but still...I hike up my big boy pants and post in here despite wheezing and gagging. Sometimes I have to blow my nose as well. But I don't complain. All glory to God!
We all have a very hard time with boxers who cannot accept being beaten in the ring, and instead choose to blame whatever injury or illness they care to name. This situation is very different. I was already skeptical about Lopez in this fight, since he had just contracted Covid in June, and although we weren't told the severity of his symptoms, a simple recall of Povetkin's performance in the Joshua rematch (four months after Povetkin initially contracted Covid) suggested that Lopez probably wouldn't be in top condition for this fight. My guess is that the esophageal tear/pneumomediastinum resulted from prolonged coughing, either from the asthma that Lopez says he has, or perhaps from the effects of Covid in his lungs, although one of the doctors quoted in that ESPN article said his lungs sounded fine/normal by stethoscope, and there was no mention in the article of any abnormal findings in his lungs on imaging. The thorough documentation in the ESPN article by Lopez and his team doesn't change the fact that he got beaten in the ring by Kambosos last Saturday night. But it sure provides a whole lot of context for it, and we should be praising Lopez for going ahead with the fight, while at the same time admonishing him for doing so, because of the threats to his own health. It seems he is having a lot of personal problems outside the ring, not least of which is a cash shortage which probably influenced his decision to go ahead with the fight. I hope he can fix all those problems before fighting again.
Those are ZEROS excuses to be blaming Eddie Hearn and DAZN for losing, for not congratulating Kambosos but telling him he won 10-2, for acting like a total biatch before AND after the fight. ETC ETC.
Call him the Messiah of the 135lb division, he almost died for our sins. I've been repenting and asking for forgiveness of the boxing gods for picking him to win after Kam dismantled him mentally in the press. Was he trying to cheat hiding extra pockets of air trying to get a stamina boost, didn't work.. He called Wilder a ***** but is now the undisputed excuse champion, Wilder was interim.
Yeah, this is bull****. Guys in that terrible a shape, aren't still that fast and throwing bombs in the 12th round of a damn near hour long boxing match. He lost because he was getting the **** countered out of him and OUTBOXED in almost every round. It had **** all to do with his lungs, chest or his stamina.
Look at how Oliviera dropped against Galloway with the same condition. Lopez had enough power to swing for the fences. To shut the doubters up Lopez should have put his medical findings and scans on the internet instead of the ESPN article.
