I think this is the main reason I never really took to Duran as a fighter. Almost all fighters have an excuse after a loss, and sometimes that excuse may even be a valid one. But Duran never, ever lost without making excuses a mile long as to why. There was always something; he didn't train, he was sick, his opponent kept running so he quit, his stomach was upset - always an excuse. Duran was a great fighter. But he was a poor sport.
As magnificent as Duran was against Barkley, you make a good point. Iran had the perfect style to make Duran look great, which he did. A fast mover though, would have been a lot more trouble. Even old Leonard danced circles around him in their third fight, and Duran looked totally ineffectual in that one, aside from the right hand in the 9th round. I don't want to knock Duran though - he was a great fighter.
It happens to the best of em...Duran Ortiz and even Zelenoff. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_lJLtp0HZc
Bull**** excuse. He quit because he was being embarrassed by a better boxer. SRL fought his fight, and Duran didn't have a chance.
Duran should've said "the reason why I quit is becasue Leonard kept on his toes, gave me a lot of movement, hit me with quick punches and then was gone. I couldn't hit him, he wouldn't stop moving, so I got frustrated and quit."
You're showing all the classic symptoms ov someone who is suffering from an extreme case ov RECTAL FLU:smoke
are u for real or just 12 years old or something. duran beat the snot out of many "fast movers" as the lightweight champ. When he moved up and distanced himself from Ray Arcel and Freddy Brown, that is when his training habits went to the shitter, and he would come into fights lethargic at times.
You and Sas2 (who called me a verifiable idiot) would rather I say Duran was the greatest p4p fighter ever and his excuses were all legit? That isn't what I believe. Hearns and Leonard and Benitez all were great and had speed and boxing skills and they all beat Duran decisively.
