The reason why this Pacfan HATES De La Hoya v Pacquiao...

I have hated this fight since day one and I still do not want it to happen because...

A - When Oscar wins, most people will say the win is worth nothing because of his size advantages.

B - If Manny wins, most people will say the win is worth nothing because Oscar must have been shot to lose to someone so much smaller than him.

Either way, this fight will result in a win which will be widely discredited, and that's a sad state of affairs in boxing.

(for the record, I agree with A and disagree with B. Oscar will win because he is simply too big, too strong, has too good a jab, and too good a chin, but I would not be remotely impressed by someone with his size advantages beating a far smaller man. If Manny won, I think it would be a SENSATIONAL victory, as I do not see the evidence for people saying Oscar is shot at all. In his last 2 fights, he took the world p4p#1 to an SD, and beat Steve Forbes arguably more comfortably than Andre Berto did in Forbes's next fight - and Berto is supposed to be the next big thing at 147. For me, there is no evidence to suggest that Oscar is any closer to shot than any number of veterans still performing at a good level, like Bernard Hopkins or Glen Johnson or Vernon Forrest or Shane Mosley. There is certainly no evidence whatsoever to suggest he is anywhere near as shot as Roy Jones Jr has been for the past few years).

But the fact that this A or B view actually exists is the tragedy of this fight.

This is because here we have another fight which falls into the category that Antonio Tarver so brilliantly termed "CELEBRITY BOXING".

This fight has been made on the basis of NAMES and MONEY.

Real boxing fights should be made on the basis of comparable levels of SIZE, ABILITY and PRIME.

To elucidate, another recent example of CELEBRITY BOXING was Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones Jr. This farce was also justified on the basis of big names. It was deemed acceptable that the world pound-for-pound number 3 fought a man who hadn't performed effectively at world title level for over 4 years. A blind man knew that Jones had been shot to **** for years and would be hopelessly dominated, but money talked. This is not the way boxing should be.

    - If Oscar was fighting Margarito or Mosley or Cotto or Forrest or Williams just now and won, the win could not be widely discredited.

    - If Pacquiao was fighting Marquez or Campbell or Guzman or Diaz or Valero just now and won, the win could not be widely discredited.

Yes, this fight may generate more cash and yes it may be fairly exciting while it lasts, but big match-ups should have integrity and be as close to 50-50 contests as possible - taking into account SIZE, ABILITY and PRIME.

On Dec 6th, wouldn't a Golden Boy double promotion of PACQUIAO v MARQUEZ III and DE LA HOYA v MARGARITO or MOSLEY have been a better night for boxing????

    IMO :bbb

I agree that alot of people will view it that way. However I will not be one of those people, whoever wins this fight even though there is a big size difference and age difference will gain more of my respect and adds just a little bit more to their resume and legacy.

Well put. Don't understand Oscar's reason for taking this fight other than the money. Even if he were to win every round convincingly with the fight going the distance it's still kind of like a loss for him because everyone will say he should've knocked him out.

I have always felt this is a win/win for Pac and a lose/lose for DLH.

I thought the same thing in the begining, but I have changed my mind... at the end Hoya is going to win the fight and make
    This content is protected
.... Pac is going to lose the fight but he's going to make
    This content is protected
    .

The vast majority have thought from the get go that Hoya is going to win the fight so there won't be any surprises there.... both fighters are going to win
    This content is protected
which is the reason why this fight is happening in the first place..... so both are winners, at the end the result (Hoya's victory) won't matter.

Next for Hoya will (might) be Hatton..... What do you guys thing is going to happen??? Nothing extraordinary is going to happen.... pretty much the same thing..... both will make
    This content is protected
    ..... again, (Hoya's victory)the result won't matter.

The big question is: What do fans win with both fights????

I agree 100% with the original post. But I think IF Pac pulled some crazy **** out of his ass and beat Hoya then his boxing stock goes straight through the roof. He would immediately have to climb down to 135 because can anyone seriously see him fighting Margarito? I think hoya gets it the worst in this fight because he is by no means shot and should not just win but win by knock out. When he does it will discredit his legacy and will turn off mainstream fans when they see the size difference in the ring. If Hoya looses he will be the laughing stock of boxing for years to come.
