wow talk about pure hatred for the guy, i respect so much for, calzaghe, hopkins and jones, but to be blinded by such hate for calzaghe is just crazy for his ring accomplishments even though, his career has been loaded with fighters he new he could beat such like hopkins and roy, but seriously this guy just dont like calzaghe, which is kinda sad, but still

roy was never moving "up and down through weight classes" - but i agree he could have done more about it.

the eyesore with calzaghe is that he never dominated on the world stage and in boxing terms that is everything.

trinidad only fought joppy at middle before he took on hopkins but i see your point.

the only real difference between hopkins and jones compared to calzaghe is WHERE and HOW THEY RULED THEIR divisions.

in hindsight that might seem trivial but in truth it speaks volumes for, wait for it - the fights that could be made.

i was only using tszyu with you as an afterthought because tszyu, who took his career by the horns and fought world class contenders as early as his 10th pro fight - still never made himself a world class resume.

:think i understant how you feel about calzaghe, as he dominated his division not the world stage, which was good enough for him making money by fighting fringe contenders at home while building up this undefeated record, the only time he got annoying was claiming he is such a great legend and saying "no one can beat me" "im the best", and he is a legend ,,,,to british boxing, but still aint to late for him, if he were to come out of retirement and fight , tarver, dawson, heck even jermain taylor or hopkins rematch, he could build a legacy which could be admired on but unforitunitly it has always been safety first option with him,

I know this is thrown around alot but TV does play a part in who gets to fight who, i dont know how hbo does what they do but, im pretty sure they would of rather seen roy jones and hopkins fight some known americans than some undefeated euro guy, but is it calzaghe fault that he was not really watched in america and couldnt get the high profile fights?

    good post.

but yes, it is calzaghe's fault because he never wanted to fight the best.

take a look at where arthur abraham is right now and how ricky hatton made his fight with floyd.

TV plays a part if the fighter - and his promoter - make enough waves to make a fight happen.

if the fighter and promoter dont do that then you'll be forgotten like felix sturm, junior witter, brian nielsen, mads larsen - and countless talented euro fighters who never really wanted to test themselves.

mikkel kessler could easily end up here too.

i know hatton and abraham both did what they had to do to get the mayweather and miranda fights respectivly, im not from the usa so i dont know which fights get shown and which dont, but even self promotion such as Haye with his public outbursts at the klitschkos at charity events, and restuarants got all of us boxing fans crying out for the fight, but the public still dont know who he is, and thats even in britian, so even making waves dont exactly make you garanteed the number viewed event on tv,

but i do agree if calzaghe really wanted to fight, hopkins and jones then he would of accepted these "dismal" contracts and proved to himself and the fans that he was no nosence, but really if you have been after that fight all your life then your drive and ambition to fight the best in your prime and test yourself with the greats then you would of signed in a minute , so maybe joe was affraid or just felt he can do better in the long run fighting euro cab drivers which brought money home for his family, we will never know, and that will be the mystrey on why he never had his mega fight sooner

    You've made several false statements.

Roy jones DID duck Calzaghe. Chris Eubank is my witness. Jones called Eubank on the phone and asked him if it was worth it to fight Calzaghe. Eubank told him to stay away (Calzaghe had just beaten Eubank by UD, flooring him in rounds 1 and 10). Roy Jones needs space in order to win, and he knew better than to fight such an aggressive fighter. Just look what Glen Johnson did to Roy. When Roy had no belt to lose, he decided to fight Calzaghe and pick up 3 million dollars.
