Ok, I just read a great sports blog by some author on Fight News, in the News Articles section, about DLH-Chavez Jr. In the article, he talks about how the "Torch was passed" in June of 96, from the Legendary Julio Sr. unto Oscar when Oscar opened up the cut with his jab, and the ref stopped the fight, and then again, how it happened in the Rematch in 1998. How Oscar was then, the True Superstar of Boxing. Except for one little thing.

The Mexican and Chicano/Latino fanbases. To put it mildly, a lot of Chavez hardcore fans and Chicanos who had grown up watching Duran and Ayala and Pryor, and Arguello and Sanchez, and Tommy Cordova, Tapia and Chacon, ect. did not appreciate Oscar's "matinee idol looks" and effeminate voice. They wanted a warrior in the ring, a street brawler "Cholo" type with boxing skills, not Ricky Martin with boxing gloves. This was further highlighted when Oscar fought Charpentier in El Paso Texas, and there were women throwing panties at him. I and my collegues, have since the late 90's been accused of "being angry" because Oscar could "take my girlfriend away" (Ironically enough, in light of the recent Fishnet Photos, I'd be more concerned with him coming on to one of my male buddies, not any girlfriends)

The anger had more to do with Oscar de la Hoya taking on and basically humiliating the Patron Saint of Mexico, Julio Cesar Chavez, who back then to Mexico, was what Pele was to Soccer, what Jordan of the Championship eras was to basketball, what Broadway Joe was to New York, and what Ali was to the people of Zaire in 74. An Icon, a Saint, a REPRESENTATIVE. Oscar, in defeating the Greatest Son of Mexico, basically took a **** on the main Altar at the Vatican, while Benedict was giving mass.

That being said, here are a few reasons why this fight will go down in 09. Actually, 1.25 million reasons.

    1. PPV Revenue. No other fighter (And I agreee, this is Pathetic, Dana White makes some awesome points) in Boxing can do this. A former WWF Champion with a tatt of a dick on his chest can generate the PPV revenue that Bernard Hopkins and Joe Calzaghe could not. Only de la Hoya can guarantee over a million PPV buys, regardless of the ass whipping he took from that Chinese Fellow.

    2. Pride. Oscar doesnt want to go out like that. No fighter really does. Oscar has an ego even bigger than Tony Romo's. He wants to go out on top, a/la DLH-Vargas.

    3. Greed. Oscar is a businessman FIRST. He has a business to run, employees need to be paid, fighters need Training Expenses paid, ect. Him fighting 2 times this year will guarantee at least 35 million in Purse monies.

    4. Warped Thinking. In Oscar's mind, if he KO's Jr. somehow the people of Mexico will finally accept and love him. Thats like a **** fantasy, of a ****** imagining that the woman under him, will be brought to a tremendous orgasm, when in reality, she is praying for it to be over.

    5. Other than a 200 pound Trinidad, there is no one else. Hatton doesnt want it, the people wont pay for Bruce Lee Jr.-DLH 2, and Floyd Jr. is a moot point. But this fight will sell because of the Revenge Factor.

    Comments, thoughts, ESB?:smoke

I just read an article on the scene about this fight with Jr. saying that Hoya used his father as a platform to get everything Hoya has today, which is news to us who saw Hoya win the gold medal in 1992 and have come to think of that event as the platform Hoya has used. Just had to sat that. Now the idea that Jr. would be the one who the torch is passed to is ridiculous as we just saw it passed to a real boxer, Pacquaio, and if this fight happens with Jr. (a real blowup doll matinnee idol of a fighter who has not done anything deserving ((girls love him in mexico, no gold medal, no defeating of real champs)) it goes to show how far low Hoya has fallen in that he can not fight any real fighter but instead this high profile tomatoe can.

What does Jr. think is gonna happen if he beats Hoya? That a torch will be passed to him? Hell no, he will be a big name for the first real boxer he faces to knock out that's all. Jr. is just heralding his own doom even further by facing Hoya. Hoya is done. He might pull this off against Jr. but that doesn't say much nor do much.

Interesting points. Based on Oscar's and Jr's last performances, I'd say Jr. wins this one, pretty big. If Oscar inexplicably decides to fight in Aztec Stadium, he had better hire a Brigade of Navy Seals to get him out of there alive if he wins, however.

    Wouldn't a DLH-Mora fight be taken more seriously~??

Aside from being the son of perhaps the greatest Mexican fighter of all time, doesn't Chavez Jr. have a certain label known as overrated~?? So if DLH beats him, will people ACTUALLY care~?? He's better off fighting John Duddy....

In a marketing sense, business side of things, this would be a good idea... Aztec Arena thing holds like 100 thousand.... With a decent undercard.... good mexican fighters.... Abner Mares, Librado Andrade, guys like them.... As for promotion... Chavez Jr.. extracting revenge for a guy that stopped his dad many years ago.... and also looking for a breakthrough win.... against one of the biggest names in sports, who might be fighting his last fight....

I could actually see Oscar go for maybe Vernon Forrest... or maybe convince Winky to come to 54...

As much as I don't wanna see Chavez Jr fight Oscar yet, I'll unfortunately watch this fight....

Funny how being attractive, well spoken, smart and business savvy can push people away. I guess being ugly, stupid and allowing others to dictate your career makes you more appealing? If this is true, what a strange world we live in. To each his own.

This is boxing, sweetie, not Professional Basketball. This isnt Pro Basketball players not being allowed to dress "Gangsta" at the games, doing the "GQ" look instead as they "Represent the League" (A policy I consider Nazi-sh and gay) This is Boxing. This is Mike Tyson punching Mitch Green in the eye in a street fight at 4am at Dapper Dans, and then Mitch Green ripping the mirror off of his Bentley as they speed off. This is Larry Holmes drop kicking Trvor Berbick off the roof of a car with cops surrounding Berbick, because Berbick pissed him off. This is Hasim Rahman and Lennox Lewis wrestling at ESPN Studios and destroying a table. This is Johnny Tapia having to be dragged away kicking and screaming after the decison in his rematch with Ayala. This is Yoel Judah and Uncle Roger walking towards each other with murder in their eyes, when Floyd took the second low blow. This is Zab grabbing the ref by the throat. This is Mike Tyson, biting Evander's ear off and spitting it on the canvas. This is one of Boew's thugs whacking Golota on the head with a phone in the middle of a riot.

This is Professional Boxing. **** the NBA and it's corrupt referees and Commissioner. :good

This is... CNN. sorry bro, i disagree with you there. yea, because of tyson's erratic behaivor for example the general population might generalize that all boxer's are the same, at least that's what the media wants. yea, sex and violence sells, but all that stuff you mentioned overshadows alot of the positive stuff that does happened. i'm not a big fan of oscar's either, but you can't deny that the guy is being a very good example as in showing other pros that there is life after boxing, maybe not as having a midas touch like he does, but it's not always the carnival alot make it seem. just that people tend to remember the crazy ****

What positive things? The Fishnets fiasco? Beating up poor Yori Boy Campas and paying him with 400 dollars and a couple of autographed photos? Running away from Trinidad in 99? Quitting against Hopkins in 04? No Mass'ing it against Pac in December? Charging fans 54 dollars for PPV and then providing **** undercards? Beating up an aged Mexican Legend and then being confused as to why the people of Mexico hate his ass?

I hope it will be a PPV fight. If the fight headlines a WCB card, 40% of HBO's annual budget will be squandered.

    Serious question Jack.

Would you have prefered Hoya not face the WBC light welterweight champ at the time?
Someone had to fight him. Someone had to beat him.
It's just the way it is in the sport. Every fighter meets his end. Pac will have his day, Margarito, even PBF if he ever unretires. Nature of the beast. No reason to hate the new champ though.

 see that's exactly what i mean. not defending the golden girl, but the fact is he did open a cancer research building in honor of his deceased mother. everyone knew whoever fought oscar even today was like winning the lottery, even tho jcc was past his prime it was well known in the U.S. and Mexico he was going through financial woes and personal problems. he did have the balls to fight B-hop, i will give him that, but don't tell me even if he got up from that liver shot he was supposed to come from behind and ktfo B-hop? alittle common sense here. this was not a mickey ward liver shot to arturo gatti, this was a much larger seasoned fighter ATG that landed that shot. i don't like oscar much, never achieved the ATG status and threw perhaps his biggest fight away with trinidad, but he's not a complete *******. he does seem like the type willing to help, but for something in return, that type of deal

Because if you followed this sport, you would KNOW that at the time, the IBF Champion, Mr. Tszyu was considered "The Man"....ask Zab Judah why Oscar avoided him like Boy George avoids the Playboy Mansion.

Sure, like his GBP Christmas Giveaways. They are pretty cool and held in East LA for the more poor kids. Oscar hires a guy to play Santa Claus and rents a suit, and a Mariachi band. He also purchases toys, at a wholesale discount from Toys R Us, and has a BBQ for the kiddies, hot dogs and chips and burgers, ect. And Christmas Candy for everyone and some GBP Lackeys to go out there and help out. He wont show up himself, because little kiddie hands on your Armani jacket can get chocolate stains on it, and these jackets are very expensive.

Now in your warped world, Oscar is doing this "To give back to the Community" And if it werent for the fact, that each last reciept for the hot dogs (And everything else, including the rented Santa Suit) goes straight to a GBP Accountant, I'd be gulible enough to believe you.

Tax Write Off. Typical Oscar. Always thinking of April 15th....and the kids of East LA.

the fight will happen because Oscar is a greedy quitter.

Oscar has lost just about every big fight he has been in and the few he "won" were very controversial victories.

I hope Chavez Jr knocks him out.
