Despite losing a close fight with a legend and future HOF Diaz looked very much improved. Personally, before the fight I thought Marquez would really rip Diaz a new *******. Thinking pretty much on the assumption that Juan is done based on his first fight with Marquez and his recent poor showings against Paulie. But WOW, a much more refined and skilled Diaz showed up and gave Marquez abit more than he was expecting. Any other Lightweight would've been beaten soundly by Diaz last nite. Overall I had it a closer fight than the judges and a Draw wouldnt have upset me. I had it 7 rounds to 5 for Marquez but 2 or 3 rounds really could've gone either way. After watching Diaz steamroll through the lightweight division and suffering a few defeats it's good to see that he's still learning and refining his craft in the ring. In all honesty the Diaz that fought last nite is much better than the undefeated one that lost to Nate Campbell.. It goes to show that getting schooled by a great boxer and losing a few times in some cases can be a learning experience. Another case and point: Carl Froch being whipped by Dirrell learned enough to keep a fight with Kessler competitive.
I thought Marquez won wider than you did. But I agree with the idea that Diaz is an improved fighter. It's clear he belongs no higher than 135. He can still make a little noise if he keeps fighting.
No ****! Would you agree Boo that Diaz is infact better now than when he lost to Campbell? I think it was apparent last night really. Who would've thought. I guess it's so eye opening as a fan because usually and in most cases a fighter that goes through what Diaz has gone through in his past few fights and loses that much really never comes back. But Diaz is back my friends. And he's better than ever!
I think Diaz is headed for Law school. It's to bad for boxing fans, but I don't think we'll see much more of him.
I agree, diaz really impressed me this morning. he showed multi dimensions and proved he still has it. marquez also impressed me, i aint putting him #3 p4p but he is still a force. when marquez moves up, diaz and kats should rematch.
boxing isnt a priority for diaz anymore...he thinks about too many other things,,,,, which is good for him....but you cant stay elite being a part time boxer
I agree he looked great, but I don't think the fight was clsoe on the cards. Each round was close, but most of the middle rounds were undeniably Marquez. Diaz's strategy would had worked on most other boxers in his division, but Marquez just made him ineffective and exposed his weaknesses. I hope Diaz continues fighting, he could continue to make the sport a bit interesting.
This is my point though: Diaz never really had more than one dimension before. His jab had slowly improved since working with Ronnie but damn, last night Juan was ****ing slipping, countering, and instead of JUST being aggressive he was also mixed things up really well. I like Katsidis and putting him in the ring with the "new" Diaz gets his ass whipped worse than he did the first time.
Y'all have no clue what you were watching. Diaz fought to SURVIVE, and he won 3 rounds TOPS! Anybody sayin Marquez only won by 2 points should never watch boxing again. Marquez hurt him basically every time he opened up on him, I just think JM was too old to really finish the job. Either that, or he was content to let Diaz last the distance. There was NOTHING impressive about Diaz last night, and he's not the fighter he was 3 years ago. At this point, I'd pick Anthony Peterson over him, and Kat over him in a rematch.
