Roy Jones is shot to pieces and should have retired years ago.

He's been beaten by journeymen and KO'd by guys who would never have been able to lay a glove on him in his prime.

Hopkins v Jones is a strange choice of match-ups.

And even though I like B-hop a lot, I am REALLY HOPING, that Roy Jones has one last GREAT performance in him, I WANT him to roll back the years and go out on a high by beating Hopkins.

I know this is a far flung fantasy, but does anyone else feel the same?

I love both fighters and I'd love to see Roy Jones in one last hurrah. I think recent form goes out the window on this one.

This is a grudge match and will be different for Roy Jones than any of his last fights. There's more in it than just money.

He's more game than Lacy(last great RJJ performance) was but like said above "This is a grudge match". RJJ should've retired after the Lacy fight but the soonest time for him would be after beating Ruiz because it was all downhill for him after that win.

I like RJJ a lot, but if he wins, he's gonna gas his head up again and continue fighting...which can't be good.

Hopkins will destroy him, I don't see Roy offering anything at this stage in his career.

It was sad seeing him knocked about by Green. Hopkins will beat him in a boring fight.

Unlikely as it seems, I'd love RJJ to beat Hopkins. He's one of the main reasons I'm a boxing fan and it's been painful to watch his fall from grace.

He really has nothing to lose in this fight. The fact that Bernard was so desperate to make the fight shows how much their first fight still bothers him - to the point that he seemingly doesn't realise a victory will get him no credit whatsoever.

I've got nothing against Hopkins but I'd love it if this back-fired on him and RJJ got one last great win before bowing out gracefully.

The only problem with that scenario is that a win over Hopkins would convince Roy he's back to his best and in the post-fight presser he'd be calling out everyone from the Klitschko's to that Korean dude he fought in the Olympics.

I just don't think Bernard throws enough punches to make this a deep fight. Roy can stay in the pocket/ropes and combination punch him to an unanimous decision.

If Roy wins - he won't retire - which is the sad part of this statement.

However - I don't see him beating Hopkins. So hopefully he'll retire after this fight.

This isn't a thread about Hopkins or his legacy and the legitimacy of the fight. It's about expressing a desire for JONES to A) Win and B) Retire.

So, with that in mind, in your opinion, how likely are these two things to happen?

Absolutely, unless you're a hardcore B-Hop fan, you have to hope that Roy will win convincingly enough to let him retire in peace - and for good...

I am no RJJ hater but this endless RJJ love in needs to stop!! When was the last time we can say RJJ was a great fighter, I`ll have a go and say around 1998 when he beat McCallum, Griffin and Hill. He won the HW title and thats an amazing thing for a man starting at MW, but one fight at HW against a man who was perfect for him should make us put in some perspective. And what since then? 2x loss to Tarvet 1x to Johnson 1x complete humiliation by Calzaghe and a loss to a good but only good Greene, against a win against a shot Trinidad and a win against a shell of a man in Lacy.

That is 12 years. If that was the last of the real RJJ thats a 6 year peak against a 12 year decline.

The guy has average power, average speed, almost no defensive skill and worse of all has never worked out how to fight once he lost his speed.

This fight will be ugly. After four rounds Hopkins will pick him off at will, he will do what Calzaghue did, he will walk through him and use him as a punchbag.

We can debate how great RJJ was at his best (and he was great), but this man is on a path of self destruction.

I think this fight is more of a 'Rocky Balboa 6' fight for Roy Jones, he should be happy with going the distance !
