I believe his prime was around 93-03. As far as the Trinidad & Lacy fights, Jones too was shot.

I completely see Cepillo's point here. It would be remarkable if RJJ was able to turn back the clock and put on one more BIG performance against Bernard Hopkins. Then after he is successful in stopping in B-Hop, He can dig deep and pull off one of the best performance of his career with a big win over B-Hop.

Unfortunately my fear that accompanies that hope is that Roy Jones Jr beats Hopkins and then decided that in his head, he can still compete with the top LHWs and SMWs in the game. Then Roy decides he wants to go on to fight Cloud and/or Dawson and gets wrecked regardless. That's my worry.

I find this comment odd. Am I to understand you're talking about the current version of RJJ - because you're surely not talking about the prime version...

And to be fair, his handspeed is the one thing that does still remain. Even if everything else has gone.

I also think you've got your numbers a bit muddled. Roy Jones was at his peak or close to it, for over a decade (1992-2003). His decline has been over the last 6-7 years when he's been fast approaching his forties. For a guy who relied on raw athletecism and razor like reflexes, ageing was always going to be an issue.

Sorry yes, what you highlighted is RJJ now...well its a question of opinion, RJJ was great 92 to 98 definately, but off the top off my head the only fighter of merit I remember him beating between 98 and 03 was Clinton Woods...and of course Ruiz, but I did praise him for that.

Sorry I disagree about the speed thing, I would say his speed now is average, when was the last time he showed any real and damaging speed? Maybe for two rounds against Calzaghe, but only lasting two rounds will get him really badly hurt.

Just remebered RJJ beat Harding 98 to 03 but how good was he?

this man has lost only 5 fights in his career! Relax a little bit people! You have to understand boxing! Yes he was knocked down by tarver and stunned and came back to soon and fought Johnson and yes he was knocked out by Green but you have to understand that burning the muscle from his body the way he did changed him! Look at his muscle definition now and look at him prior to heavyweight! He was thicker and more cut plus with all the muscle lost can decrease the fluid around your brain which can also affect his punch taking ability but you have to realize that he has been taking punches in the past! Took Ruiz shots! Took Tarvers shots in the first fight! Got news for you! He is going to whip Hopkins ass! Then go out!

    Scenario A - B-Hop wins
Extremely likely. B-Hop achieves nothing. RJJ retires.

    Scenario B - RJJ wins
Very Unlikely. RJJ declares it the start of his comeback and endures 5 back to back defeats before he dies in the ring.

I don't want this fight to happen.

While BHop does not have crushing KO power he has more than enough to shatter Roy's fragile Glass Mandible. BHop is going to shatter the myth of Roy Jones Jr once and for all. Literally.

I don't expect an exciting fight as their first encounter was a very boring snoozefest with neither guy willing to engage it was just a lot of posing etc. in the middle of the ring. Hopkins is going to go right for that pathetic Glass Jaw of Roy's this time.

It will be an episode of 'Shattered Glass'.

BHop rocked Pavlik, who has a pretty good chin. He has more than enough power to crack RJJ's jaw to pieces. And this is coming from a big RJJ fan and he is still my All time favorite. But he is going to suffer another embarrassing KO loss. He needs to retire before something bad happens.

I think this is it for Jones. He was supposedly stiffed badly by King for the Trinidad fight and wanted a few more money fights. I am not a fan of Jones but if he does get KOed I hope he retires before something bad happens.

Me too. I used to act like him when boxing in my friend's backyard. My world fell apart when he got ko'd by Tarver. Mosley may be my fav fighter but if it wasn't for Jones I wouldn't have loved this sport and even be on here so much respect to him. I agree that he needs to retire while his health is still good.
